The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Dentistry (UMSOD) has an exciting opportunity available for a Donor Relations Specialist in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. The Donor Relations Specialist is a critical staff member who stewards all donors to the School of Dentistry to thank them for their gift and inform them of how their gift is used. This individual is also a critical connection to endowment donors who generously give permanent funds within the UMB Foundation to provide scholarship support and money for patient care, teaching, and research. This individual is the primary relationship manager with these important alumni and friends of the School of Dentistry. This individual performs many important tasks, including annual reports on major grants given to the School of Dentistry, such as the multi-million-dollar ones from the Maryland E-Innovation Fund (MEIF).

Essential Functions:

    Coordinates information tracking processes regarding acknowledgment, recognition, on-going communications and continued stewardship of past and current major and planned giving donors to enhance their relationship with the University and increase the likelihood of continued contributions. Design, document and implement a systematic and integrated donor relations program that encompasses donor acknowledgments, endowment status reports, communications and events. Devise and use consistent, accurate and appropriate information-sharing mechanisms for stewarding prospects and donors. Generate creative solutions for stewarding and recognizing donors, strategically and proactively lead donor engagement strategies, and assist the School-based philanthropy staff in establishing and coordinating individualized stewardship plans for major and planned giving donors. Coordinate and manage all stewardship mailing and outreach activities, including regular communication and special events. Work collaboratively with the Associate Dean to compose letters to major donors and create donor awards and recognition at appropriate giving levels. Manage memberships in the alumni and stewardship programs and other giving clubs, committees, and affiliations in the donor database. Track special acknowledgments; prepare special acknowledgements; be aware of need for special acknowledgments when necessary. Prepare endowment report templates, maintain endowment information in the donor database, and prepare the endowment reports to donors. Ensure strategic alignment with School- and University-wide goals and objectives. Develop metrics and associated quality assurance monitoring to evaluate ongoing programs and controls. Assist in compilation and preparation of donor analyses, trends, and reports. Prepare for meetings, provide daily administration and support activities for the office, and oversee procurement purchases and expenses. Performs other duties as assigned.
  Qualifications    Education: Bachelor's degree.

Experience: Three (3) years progressively building a background in the various philanthropic functions or customer or client relations. Experience with donor or customer data maintenance, donor relations and stewardship, gift administration, or advancement services preferred.  Prior experience in higher education preferred.

Other: Equivalent years of related experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.

Hiring Range: Mid $50,000s to mid $60,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
