  • Collect, tag, and analyze known and projected foundation funding as available to generate annual benchmarks of existing and projected funding for the Drive Electric Campaign
  • Facilitate deep ongoing collaboration with CWF’s close partners to conduct a needs assessment to better understand gaps in funding levels
  • Support the development of funder and partner report content and graphics that display funding trends and other Campaign metrics
  • Support the development of funder and partner report content and graphics that meaningfully and accurately show key performance indicator data progression, gaps to goals, and other Campaign metrics
  • Work closely with Marketing and Communications staff to develop accurate graphics and statistics, telling compelling stories through data visualization

  Campaign & Department Summary

Drive Electric is the campaign to accelerate the global transition to 100% clean electric transportation for people and goods, delivering massive benefits to the climate, health, and the economy. Drive Electric works with an expansive network of partners to accelerate systems change through smart government policies, business leadership and action, and people-powered coalitions representing health, environment, labor, consumers, and communities affected by vehicle pollution. ClimateWorks Foundation’s Road Transportation Team serves as the Secretariat of the Drive Electric Campaign, coordinating various advisory bodies, partner relationships, and overseeing grants tracking across funders.

The Systems & Processes (S&P) Department, situated under the broader Operations & Planning team at ClimateWorks designs, develops, and manages the core online applications used by the organization to support key business processes. In addition, the S&P Department collaborates with the Global Intelligence team to curate and maintain the systems and processes that are used to collect, store, analyze and share climate and philanthropic insight related data with internal staff and partners. The philanthropic insights function of the Global Intelligence service is one of many shared responsibilities between the Global Intelligence team and the Systems & Processes team.

 

Job Description

The Drive Electric Campaign Senior Data Specialist will be the primary data expert overseeing the use of data tools and analysis to inform the Drive Electric Campaign to shift to clean, electric transportation around the world. This role will leverage shared systems within ClimateWorks Foundation to collect, store, analyze and report on data collected from a variety of sources in close collaboration with the Systems & Processes Department, the Global Intelligence team, and the Drive Electric Campaign. This role will initially focus on the Drive Electric Campaign, with the potential to expand to other programmatic areas within ClimateWorks.

 

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

Data Collection and Management

  • Track data and develop narratives on the shift to clean, electric transportation around the world. Assessing if the world is on track to decarbonize transportation to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
  • Collect, tag, and analyze projected foundation philanthropic funding to assess funding levels and identify gaps across regions and issues areas for the Drive Electric Campaign
  • Collaborate across three high-impact teams to align on data collection, use, and analysis, to develop narratives based on data to tell the story of the impact of the Drive Electric Campaign
  • Generate insights for public reports by collecting, tagging, and analyzing key Drive Electric progress indications (e.g., EV sales, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain related taxonomies to support robust and flexible data analysis of various characteristics and dimensions of the funding and progress data
  • Systematically collect additional progress data and programmatic intelligence from the field by gathering reports from reputable organizations in addition to transportation related abatement metrics from known climate models, in collaboration with Drive Electric support
  • Work directly with ClimateWorks Global Intelligence team to identify, collect and compare metrics from other transportation emissions related analyses

Analysis and Reporting

  • Support the development of funder and partner report content and graphics that display funding trends and other Campaign metrics
  • Support the development of funder and partner report content and graphics that meaningfully and accurately show key performance indicator data progression, gaps to goals, and other Campaign metrics
  • Work closely with Marketing and Communications staff to develop accurate graphics and statistics, telling compelling stories through data visualization

 

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least 5 years’ experience as data manager, data analyst, or similar role
  • Experience with Excel as an essential tool for managing various data sets
  • Experience with Salesforce or other similar databases
  • Experience working with medium to large sets of data as part of core job function
  • Extremely detail oriented, motivated to investigate and correct irregularities, including discomfort with messy or confusing data
  • Understanding of taxonomies used to categorize and classify data
  • Comfort with data visualization tools such as Excel, Tableau, Qlik (or other similar tools)
  • Good visual sense of information, including ability to tell stories and prepare clear and concise data visuals for various audiences
  • Must be extremely well-organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, primarily remote environment as part of a highly collaborative team
  • Must have excellent customer service skills in order to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Highly collaborative orientation, ability to navigate priorities across teams and connect related workstreams
  • Interest in climate change with a commitment to ClimateWorks’ mission and values, including a desire to understand the data itself and its strategic importance to Drive Electric Campaign’s overall goals and business processes
  • A commitment to a diverse, inclusive and equitable work environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Qlik
  • Moderate level of knowledge of transport electrification topics including cars, trucks, buses, and 2-/3-wheelers
  • Moderate level of knowledge of climate and EV policies, such as zero emission vehicle CO2 regulations

ClimateWorks offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience (geographic differential applied based on location).

 

Location

ClimateWorks Foundation is based in the San Francisco Financial District. This position is classified as US Flexible. Exceptional candidates can work from the SF office or from other locations, geographic differential applied to compensation based on local cost of labor.
