JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Development, the Director of Corporate Sponsorship develops strategy and solicits both cash and in-kind corporate support for productions, major fundraisers, education, and community programs. The position has primary fundraising responsibility for annual corporate events, which currently include Will on the Hill and Mock Trial, sponsor relationships and benefits delivery, and corporate in-kind and trade gifts. Working within a department of nine full-time staff, the Director supervises the Development Events Manager.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising

  • Serve as primary relationship manager for corporate sponsors supporting STC’s events and programming, developing partnerships ranging in value from $10,000 to $50,000.
  • Conduct regular direct contact with sponsors and prospects to qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward corporate partners to successfully secure sponsorships
  • Oversee the drafting and editing of proposals and reports for potential sponsors, ensuring the projects and ideas presented are compelling and target the sponsor’s specific interests
  • Curate unique sponsorship opportunities and expertly deliver high-level experiences for corporate sponsors

Strategy

  • Develop revenue targets for event-based fundraising and corporate sponsorships that increase year-to-year; develop and implement plans to meet these goals
  • Ensure the coordination and execution of signature events as well as Opening Nights, donor events and other small-scale functions, in alignment with Theatre’s overall development strategy
  • Provide strategic counsel to Senior Director of Development, Artistic Director, Executive Director, and Board of Trustees on all areas related to corporate sponsors
  • Work with key leadership to develop personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies and collaborate with leadership team in corporate solicitations as needed
  • Liaise with Development Committee and the Committee on Trustees, to cultivate corporate networks for sponsorship opportunities

Leadership

  • Directly supervise and mentor the Development Events Manager and Development Coordinator
  • Identify, coordinate and manage special events Chairs and Committees comprised of STC Board Members, donors and other high-level volunteers
  • As a senior member of the Development team, work collaboratively with other team members managing major gifts, corporate/government and foundation relations, and operations, helping leverage funding opportunities
  • Ensure best-practice systems within corporate sponsorship including relationship management, financial tracking and reporting, contact reports, data capture, trend analysis and more
  • Stay abreast of new trends in corporate philanthropy and sponsorship and track local business conditions to identify new opportunities

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors’ degree or equivalent experience
  • 5-7 years of corporate partnerships/development/sponsorship experience, including solicitation of five to six-figure commitments
  • Experience managing and mentoring events and fundraising staff
  • Knowledge of and experience with the DC area corporate philanthropic community
  • Special events management expertise with the ability to craft bespoke events for donors, patrons and sponsors
  • Well-honed skills in developing corporate sponsor cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications, poise, and professionalism at all times
  • Creativity, energy, and confidence
  • Integrity and a high level of discretion; sensitive to confidentiality and ethical considerations related to prospect and donor information
  • Initiative and independence along with the ability to work well as part of the team
  • Problem-solver in fast-paced, multi-faceted, dynamic organization
  • Ability to prioritize independently to effectively meet deadlines
  • Calm under pressure with the ability to productively adapt and respond to change
  • Facility with Tessitura or other donor database and budgeting
  • Passion for the mission of the Shakespeare Theatre Company
  • Flexibility to attend after-hour events on nights and weekends

Additional Information

  • Salary starting at $75,000 annually
