PRESIDENT

Saint Joseph’s University invites nominations and applications for the position of President.

Founded in 1851 as Philadelphia’s Jesuit university, Saint Joseph’s University prepares students for a rapidly changing world by focusing on academic excellence and courageous exploration. With an intellectual tradition, distinguished by a foundational liberal arts core and diversified by strong professional programs in education, business, health, and science, Saint Joseph’s students are empowered, challenged, and supported by faculty-scholar mentors to follow their own path. There are nearly 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the University’s four schools and colleges — the College of Arts and Sciences, the Erivan K. Haub School of Business, the School of Education and Human Development, and the School of Health Professions. With academic offerings in the most sought-after majors, including leading programs in the first-in-the-nation Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, nearly 100 percent of students are employed, pursuing advanced degrees, or volunteering in prestigious service programs upon graduation. The University’s network of nearly 100,000 proud alumni keep alive the rallying cry — The Hawk Will Never Die.

The next President will embody Saint Joseph’s University’s core values, including: a commitment to a Jesuit approach to education and the Catholic intellectual tradition; a mindset of integrity and empathy; a dedication to cultivating and fostering a diverse and inclusive community, engaged citizenship, and personal excellence; a respect for students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and community members; a passion for creating opportunity and accessibility in education; and a visionary, innovative, and strategic approach to transformational leadership that addresses the challenges and opportunities facing higher education in the decades to come. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the President will lead the University and serve as the primary advocate for its interests, particularly the importance of enhancing the academic culture that places primacy on holistic student experiences and outcomes. The next President will govern the progress of the University by identifying goals and priorities, managing its $400 million operating budget, stewarding its $500 million endowment, and collaborating across all constituencies to build trust and ensure inclusive representation from the Saint Joseph’s community as the University advances its strategic initiatives.

The next President of Saint Joseph’s will work closely with the Board, senior administrators, Deans, and other community leaders to advance the current strategic plan and articulate a 5- and 10-year vision for the University. This strategic vision will include executing and expanding on the University’s bold Campus Master Plan and successfully completing SOAR: The Campaign for Saint Joseph’s University, the largest in institutional history at $300 million. The Master Plan aims to integrate and modernize Saint Joseph’s two campuses to create a world-class student experience through the addition of state-of-the-art academic, athletic, recreational, and residential spaces. The President will be a transformational leader with a deep commitment to shared governance, and they will engage collaboratively and transparently across all constituencies. They will enthusiastically champion the excellence of the University, and they will partner with civic, governmental, educational, and industrial organizations for the advancement of Saint Joseph’s and all of its community members, both internal and external.

The next President of Saint Joseph’s University will possess: substantive fiscal and personnel management experience, preferably in higher education; a high level of cultural competency and a demonstrated commitment to the values of equity, inclusion, and justice; experience leading a large and complex organization; a successful track record of fundraising and institutional and community development; experienced and effective advocacy for the value proposition of higher education; a proven foundational understanding of—and deep respect for—shared governance and faculty engagement; a record of collaborating and partnering with faculty and other community members on strategic initiatives; and an appreciation for—and commitment to—the Jesuit mission and the Catholic identity, as well as the University’s tradition of excellence in both its distinctive liberal arts foundation and its exceptional professional schools.

A terminal degree is preferred.

For best consideration, please send all nominations and applications in confidence to:
