The Office of Advancement at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for the Director of Development for the College of Music! Under the guidance of the Assistant Dean for Advancement, the Director of Development serves as a highly productive team member for the COM team by successfully managing and developing a portfolio of approximately 100 individual prospective donors.

Through these philanthropic and engagement efforts, the University is able to attract highly skilled students to support and grow our hardworking faculty and strengthen our overall academic and co-curricular programs as we build a foundation of excellence for the future.

The College of Music Advancement team is a collaborative group of skilled professionals who work closely with the dean and faculty to elevate the College of Music (COM), CU Presents (including the Artist Series), and Colorado Shakespeare Festival (CSF).

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Individual Contributor

  • With a "CU first" philosophy, the Director of Development consistently achieves annual and multi-year performance and portfolio engagement goals, moves the portfolio of assigned relationships towards solicitation of existing and future donors at both leadership annual giving levels at $5,000 per year and larger commitments of $100,000 with the intent of sustaining and growing donors' impact on CU Boulder.
  • Contribute meaningfully to donor strategy in support of the Dean of the College, faculty, and the Assistant Dean for Advancement, focusing on major gift strategy and prospect development with a particular emphasis on major gift cultivation and stewardship, its intersection with other program elements of the advancement operation, and long-term development and engagement goals of the COM and CU Boulder Advancement.
  • In partnership with the Assistant Dean for Advancement, support the College’s efforts to establish an amplified focus on major and principal giving and its intersection with alumni and community engagement leading to growth in leadership annual giving and major gift results, deepening the base of potential major gift prospects.
  • Portfolio management of 80-100 prospective donors. Develop discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for major gift donors and prospects to the COM, CU Presents, and CSF with a particular focus on the development of new prospective donors to these and other flagship programs of the College and its collaborating partners in the performing arts at the University of Colorado Boulder.
  • Demonstrate deep commitment to donor-centered work by coordinating with advancement colleagues in schools, colleges, and athletics in cross-campus donor engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship as appropriate.
  • Craft a focused plan to develop major gift prospects from the subscriber and patron base of highly visible programs like Takács Quartet, CSF, CU Opera, and CU Presents.
  • Represent the University of Colorado Boulder and the COM events to represent advancement leadership, steward, cultivate and identify future donors.
  • Support in developing major gift engagement strategies for all managed donor and prospective donor relationships at the College of Music; collaborate effectively with all COM philanthropy, engagement, stewardship, and event planning personnel to optimize leadership annual giving participation from the collective portfolio of managed relationships.

Administrative

  • Document prospect strategies and contact reports, evaluates new prospects, and generates stewardship reports and general correspondence daily to cultivate major gift prospects.
  • Work daily to ensure timely, accurate completion of proposals, pledges, and fund agreements.
  • Serve as a key liaison to the Music Advisory Board, CSF Advisory Board, Artists Series Advisory Board, and American Music Research Center Advisory Board.
