QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

 The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of proven fundraising experience, preferably working in a complex organization or College setting;
  • A minimum of three years of proven supervisory experience;
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and political savvy, with the ability to navigate a complex environment and understand and relate effectively with diverse constituents;
  • Proven ability to effectively manage the Foundation Board of Directors;
  • The highest level of integrity, accountability, and trustworthiness;
  • Innovation and the ability to apply emerging trends and best practices;
  • The ability to foster an empowered, inspired, and positive culture for staff;
  • A sense of urgency and a clear set of priorities with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances;
  • Experience in recruiting, motivating, and supporting volunteers to build and expand the development network;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate consistently and transparently to create shared goals and understanding;

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:         

The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

 The AVPIA will build and grow a dynamic and innovative operation by hiring, training, and coaching a team of development officers focused on philanthropy. Along with development, the AVPIA will reimagine traditional alumni operations, oversee Foundation operations, and oversee the College’s direct support organizations.  The AVPIA will play a key role in shaping strategy and organizational culture. The AVPIA will work closely with College leadership to help coordinate and play an integral role in directing the existing Foundation.  The AVPIA will work with presidents across all five campuses, workforce programs, two charter high schools, and the College athletic director.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and adequate supervision of the staff members in all areas of significant giving, including school/program-based giving, gift planning, and corporate and foundation relations, while also maintaining a close relationship with athletics fundraising;                                                                                             
  • Determine priorities and fundraising goals for each of the constituent areas and units;
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of institutional advancement including scholarship management.
  •  Instill fundraising best practices among staff and help to communicate these best practices to the deans, department chairs, and other academic leaders;
  • Work with assigned staff members to develop business plans and annual goals, track monthly and quarterly progress;
  • Provide insight to help set the division’s annual fundraising goals and pursue a significant increase in primary gift fundraising productivity for the institution;
  • Meet division-wide performance metrics and monthly/annual goals as agreed upon with the executive vice president for strategic initiatives or designee;
  • Lead staff in an aggressive program of donor identification and qualification to build a substantial pool of prospective donors;
  • Work with staff to help coach deans and other academic leaders in the art of developing and articulating a compelling vision for their areas of responsibility;
  • Oversee management of Foundation operations, funds and investments in accordance with Board policies and accepted procedures for 501(c)3 organizations.
  • Represent the College and Foundation in community, state and national organizations, committees and other activities related to private resource development.
  • Oversee the administration of the River Hammock student housing facility.
  • Encourage and coordinate professional development opportunities for assigned staff; and
  • Over time, the AVPIA will develop and maintain a small portfolio of high-value donor prospects.
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
