The YMCA of Greater Richmond seeks a highly motivated, mission-driven, experienced development professional to serve as Senior Vice President of Philanthropy. The SVP of Philanthropy is responsible for establishing and retaining deep relationships in the community and articulating the Y’s need for philanthropic support.  The SVP also defines, plans, implements and analyzes the operational effectiveness of fundraising programs including major giving and annual and capital campaigns while providing strong leadership and relationships with the philanthropy team, Y leaders, members, and community stakeholders. The SVP of Philanthropy will ensure a safe, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere that promotes a genuine sense of belonging for all.

The SVP of Philanthropy will be responsible for the overall success of the fundraising program, provide structure, direction and supervision serving as educator, consultant, researcher, communicator and facilitator to staff and volunteers. They will be responsible for association level relationships and solicitations for major gifts. The SVP of Philanthropy models and promotes a culture that values critical thinking and problem-solving while encouraging innovation, feedback, and engagement.  Serves on the Association Leadership team.

The successful candidate will have a passion for the YMCA of Greater Richmond's mission and the ability to effectively articulate the importance and impact of its work. This candidate will align the YMCA operationally to be viewed, by the community and stakeholders, as an organization well positioned to advance the mission and cause.


A college degree in education with a minimum of eight years’ progressive experience in fundraising. Strong oral and written communications and organizational skills are required, along with the ability to work with people in a supportive and collaborative role. Establishes positive and productive working relationships and is able to generate trust and confidence. Additional applied skills in budget development and financial analysis, reporting, strategic planning, and oversight of implementation are necessary.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and financial development software is required.
