POSITION SUMMARY

The overall purpose of the Foundation Relations Manager position is to identify, secure, and steward grant opportunities for Fountain House from new foundation prospects and current partners, as well as cultivate relationships with institutional funders and other external partners to build support for Fountain House and its mission to help people living with mental illness to overcome social isolation and build the community and the resilience needed to thrive in society. 

Please Note: This position will be hybrid. Candidates will be required to report to our New York Clubhouse in Mid Manhattan from time to time. 

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prospecting, Cultivation and Stewardship:

  • Research new foundation prospects and funding opportunities
  • Collaborate internally within the Development team and externally across departments, while leveraging Board connections, to strategically plan how to approach prospects and opportunities
  • Coordinate letters of inquiry to foundation prospects with grant writer. 
  • Create and update profiles on foundation prospects and current partners
  • Analyze and assess identified prospects to determine which opportunities to pursue
  • Responsible in coordination with grant writer for grant proposals to foundation prospects and current funders
  • Oversee recognition and stewardship process in coordination with grant writer and development associate. For example acknowledgment letters to foundation supporters etc. 
  • Manage communications with foundation prospects and supporters

Data and Process Management:

  • Coordinate the interdepartmental grant application process, including budgets and financial requirements
  • Manage all renewals of current foundation grants in coordination with grant writer 
  • Record and track all activity and progress in Salesforce database, including prospecting, moves management, pipeline of opportunities/deliverables, grant management/admin/filing, etc.
  • Maintain and regularly update the calendar of foundation deadlines (i.e., due dates for grant applications, reports, letters of inquiry, etc.) in Salesforce database
  • Maintain and regularly update portfolio of foundation funders in Salesforce database, including accounts and contacts
  • Ensure compliance with grant agreements and complete all required foundation grant reporting, including narrative and financial reports, working with program, research, finance, and other staff to ensure timely submission

Other duties:

  • Contribute to the Development/Fundraising Strategic Plan and strategic planning process
  • Schedule, coordinate, and lead site visits with foundation prospects and partners
  • Host/attend meetings and events and develop/deliver presentations with foundation prospects and funders
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent research/prospecting skills and experience using online grant databases
  • Exceptional grant writing skills, including a proven track record of success writing winning proposals
  • Experience with grant management and knowledge of grant stewardship best practices
  • Experience with grant budgeting and knowledge of the basics of nonprofit finance/accounting
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar database
  • Experience with, and/or knowledge of, the institutional giving landscape
  • Experience with, and/or knowledge of, the public health, social justice, and mental health fields
  • Ability to collaborate and coordinate between departments and work with diverse groups of people from all backgrounds and across different constituencies
  • The ideal candidate will be an organized, detail-oriented team player with outstanding judgment, highly developed analytical abilities, interpersonal skills, and the ability to multitask
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Excellent computer proficiency, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.) and internet research skills
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to conduct assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CREDENTIALS

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in grant writing, grant management, or related work within the field of nonprofit development/communication
  • Undergraduate degree required (or an equivalent combination of training and professional work experience)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in non-profit work, relationship management and foundation experience.
