VP of Fundraising & Donor Relations

About Tearfund USA

Tearfund USA is focused on building deep and strategic partnerships with individuals, churches, and networks to spur others to put faith into high-impact action. We work alongside churches and communities to sustainably overcome poverty and injustice, meet critical needs, and advocate for fair policies and practices. We are finalizing a new strategy, business model, and messaging. And we're preparing to launch for a new level of impact in early 2023.

A 4-year-old startup rooted in a 50-year movement, we have access to the expertise and resources of a robust family of Tearfund organizations and global networks. Together, the 11 Tearfund family agencies work with hundreds of local partners in nearly 50 countries and annually resource a collective $150M+ in community support and transformation. We are leveraging Tearfund’s global learning to imagine a decolonized and justice-framed approach for the US and around the world that will be unique among many US-based Christian peers.

Because of our values, we are committed to creating a diverse institution that honors and celebrates difference and is inclusive of the communities we serve. Our commitment to diversity stems from a belief that multiple, different perspectives are necessary to manifest a full vision of God’s Kingdom through the work we do. We value people of all backgrounds and strive to build a diverse team in ability, ethnicity, language, class, age, gender, race, and familial status.

We are a woman-led organization with gender parity at the board and staff levels. We hold deep commitments to gender and racial justice and equity for our team and partners. We will continue to work toward a culture where all can fully experience belonging and freedom to exercise their gifts. We know this is a journey, seek counsel from experts, and remain committed to the hard work for the long haul.

As a committed Christian organization, we seek staff with a personal relationship with Jesus and an active faith life, able to affirm the Apostles’ Creed as a statement of faith and with meaningful church participation.

The Ideal Candidate

You are passionate and committed to responding at a systemic level to the brokenness in the world today. Jesus and justice are your motivations.

You believe in the role Jesus called his followers to do, continuing his work to redeem and restore all of creation. You know that it is not optional but a function of living out active faith.

You believe in the church–both the local expression and the universal church, the global body of Christ called to be salt and light and show God’s love in both word and deed.

You know that mission isn’t passive but active. It gets people off the couch and out of the house, and you’re excited to invite people onto more profound personal faith journeys. You know that fundraising is fundamentally discipleship.

You are wired to collaborate for disruption, innovation, thought leadership, and change. You are not rigid or territorial.

You are what we jokingly call a “Swiss Army Knife.” You have a core expertise and experience set in fundraising leadership, but you are well-rounded and able to contribute to a start-up by jumping in and out of other functional areas.

You love people and excel at relationships that achieve common goals. This shows up in your people management, peer collaboration; and, most importantly, highly successful donor development and fundraising.

You have business acumen and a ministry heart. You manage the tensions of keeping the mission the main thing, operational efficiency, and maximum return.

You are joining a team called to do God’s work in new ways for the times, and you’re ready to buckle up for the ride! You are ok with ambiguity and risk and are excited to help make choices on unknowns.

You are low ego, embrace diversity, dream big, take initiative, execute well, bounce back from adversity, and celebrate the wins as a team.
