From college students to young stars, from working professionals to celebrated masters, we present quality jazz for an ever-increasing audience in an unprecedented range of activities and a variety of venues. The Assistant Director of Institutional Giving is responsible for preparing and producing all written materials to government agencies and select foundations for our operational and special project needs in collaboration with the Vice President of Development and Director of Institutional Giving. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator, researcher and writer and will work collaboratively with the Development team and various departments across the organization to produce compelling collateral materials that represent JALC’s mission and diverse programming across the fields of arts, culture, and music education.

Key Responsibilities
• Manage the complete application and reporting cycle for government grants from city, state and federal agencies and facilitate the completion of government-contract packages.

• Prepare sophisticated funding proposals, decks, letters of inquiry and reports for submission to foundations.

• Handle key aspects of stewardship and cultivation.

• Help to implement an effective renewal and moves management process for institutional funders.

• Conduct prospect research and identify new funders.

• Prepare briefing materials and donor acknowledgments.

• Work with the Finance team to prepare budgets and reconcile accounts.

• Help develop cultivation and solicitation strategies and evaluate existing methods.

• Participate in short- and long-term strategic planning in order to meet fundraising goals.

• Serve as liaison between JALC staff and program officers for capital projects.

• Stay abreast of regulatory changes and ensure internal policies and procedures are amended as needed.

• Participate in site visits and attend meetings/events as needed.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree required and 3+ years’ experience in grant writing and/or institutional giving.
• Demonstrated knowledge of local, state, and federal government and compliance policies.

• Excellent expository writing, research, copyediting and communication skills.

• Keen attention to detail balanced with excellent time management

• Ability to interact with funders and anticipate funder needs.
• Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Tessitura.

• Familiarity with prospecting tools such as Foundation Directory Online and DonorSearch.

• Results-oriented, with a passionate commitment to the performing arts and an appreciation for JALC’s goals and mission.

• Understanding of complex budgets.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across the organization.

• Available to work some weekends as needed.
