Associate Vice President, National Women's Philanthropy

JFNA’s Lay Leadership Development strategy and department helps drive the vision of Flourishing Jewish Communities by developing those who can lead across the community through complex and challenging times. Our work complements and partners deeply across JFNA to ensure consistency with all leadership networks represented within JFNA and in the field.

Women’s Philanthropy Campaigns in the Federation system are the fastest growing components of the Annual Campaign, now representing 23% of the total campaign. Women today hold 40 percent of global wealth, and across nearly every income level, The Women’s Philanthropy Institute research shows that women are more likely to give—and, on average, give more—than men, and by 2030, women will control as much as two-thirds of wealth in the U.S.

Position Summary: 
The Associate Vice President for National Women’s Philanthropy will set a vision and architect an overarching strategy and framework that will build upon the excellence of National Women’s Philanthropy across the Federation system and wider Jewish community. The ideal candidate has a track record of innovation within a legacy institution.

The Associate Vice President (AVP) will lead the women’s philanthropy team, including growing and guiding the NWP board and the menu of signature annual touch points and experiences to ensure consistency, continuity, and excellence in the leadership and philanthropic pipeline for the Jewish community.  The AVP will also work in collaboration with and across departments and the field focused on leveraging the power of women’s philanthropy as an engine for change, innovation, and growth in the Jewish community. The AVP will be a senior member of the Lay Leadership Department team responsible for building on Federations’ potential as the largest and most scalable platform in the North American Jewish community for volunteer leaders and philanthropists today.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Create a strategic vision for the future of National Women’s Philanthropy within JFNA and across the Federation system, leveraging research and data to drive decision making

• Cultivate and steward existing and rising senior leadership in support of the Federation and Jewish community’s lay leadership pipeline
• Cultivate, solicit, and steward senior level philanthropists at the National and Global level related to Women’s Philanthropy
• Design best-in-class online/in-person experiences for female identifying philanthropists
• Supervise the National Women’s Philanthropy team and manages the team’s budget
• Works in collaboration and concert with the NWP board chair in leading the NWP board
• Identify best practices in women's philanthropy, provide thought leadership on giving trends, share and scale best practices techniques to drive growth, advise on fundraising strategy and philanthropic engagement
• Represent and promote National Women’s Philanthropy to internal and external stakeholders – including local Federation professionals, current/prospective lay leaders and philanthropists, thought-leaders, and institutional partners
• Partner with local Federation professionals to provide strategic consultation focused on strengthening the local pipeline of women’s leadership and philanthropy.
• Establish year-over-year success indicators and benchmarks
• Develop strategy for evaluation, continuous improvement, and participant satisfaction
• Convene and manage the senior leaders in NWP to help guide the strategy for the future of the department

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 10 years’ professional experience showing progression of increased responsibility in the spaces of leadership, fundraising, other non-profit, or similar agency in or outside of the Jewish communal world.
• Expertise in philanthropic and leadership development – ideally in a Jewish or other socially-conscious nonprofit
• High level of comfort and knowledge of fundraising and campaign best practices
• Expertise in creating experiences that speak to philanthropic leaders across the spectrum of giving
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills – people-person– relationship-builder with track record of customer service and a deep understanding of the lay/pro partnership

• Excellent writing and public speaking skills as well as the ability to effectively articulate JFNA’s mission in this arena to all relevant constituencies

• Strategic capability to see the big picture and connect the dots across multiple stakeholders

• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within and across teams
• Strong interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills
• Inspires results and is results-driven, strategic thinker
• Excellence in building and managing teams
• Ability to travel approximately 20-25% 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Our compensation philosophy strives to be both externally competitive with nonprofits of a similar size and internally fair in our pay practices. The following represents the target offer range given the scope and experience expectations for this role. 

• The hiring salary range for this role is $155,000 - $175,000
