About the position

This is a senior-level position that is primarily responsible for developing and implementing a strategic foundation and institutional grant program that includes identifying, cultivating and soliciting foundations for financial support. The current foundation and institutional grant portfolio represents a healthy mix of private foundation and government sources. In 2023, BGCSM will launch a Century Campaign ending in 2026. This position will be a key contributor to the campaign goals and success. Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan has a robust and aggressive strategic vision for ensuring youth are career, start-up and homeowner ready. While the pace is fast, we are seeking an expert who can help ensure we are proactively engaging with our partners and driving toward the mission of the organization.

 

Essential Job Functions (not limited to):

  • Serve as grants point person and subject matter expert, with a proven record of successfully seeking and identifying government and private foundation grant opportunities

  • Oversee grant writing function of the organization, including managing grant writing staff and partners

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward relationships that will enhance BGCSM’s profile in the funder community

  • Proactively oversee grants operations across various teams

  • Ensure compliance with government grant requirements

  • Orchestrate BGCSM’s role in the grant lifecycle

  • Collaborate with program and finance departments to ensure full compliance

  • Translate organization-wide priorities to potential funders

  • Engender support from BGCSM’s diverse stakeholder groups

  • Oversee compliance with passthrough grants from Boys and Girls Clubs of America

  • Align grant opportunities to BGCSM’s strategic priorities

  • Prepare reporting as required by granting agencies.

  • Maintain a proposal calendar to ensure that all applications, reporting and renewal deadlines are met

 

Requirements

 

About you

We are seeking candidates who enjoy a fast paced, growth oriented organization. You should be interested in collaborating with Club-wide departments while also overseeing the grants management function. A commitment to our mission is critical.   • A minimum of 7 years of progressive work experience that demonstrates and ability to develop and implement effective programs and systems, ideally within grants management and/or at a nonprofit organization

  • Comprehensive understanding of government and private foundation-specific regulations

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines across many stakeholder groups

  • An appreciation for collecting and maintaining healthy data and a well tended database

  • Adept at collaboratively crafting and reviewing budgets according to greatest organization needs and funding priorities

  • Value diversity of thought, experience and background

  • Exceptional organizational time and project management skills

  • Ability to frame issues and communicate technical, budgetary, and program details across all functions and to various partners

  • Superb interpersonal skills with a comfort working across diverse teams

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Flexibility and ability to learn and develop new skills on the job

  • Enthusiasm for the mission and a desire to work in a collaborative environment

 

Working environment: Hybrid work policy of two days per week. Flexible work location based on headquarters and multiple club locations.

 

Salary will be commensurate with experience. The benefits package includes paid holidays, paid time off, life insurance and comprehensive health insurance.
