Position Summary: 

This position represents a unique leadership opportunity to advance reproductive health, rights and justice at a pivotal time for the movement. Reporting to the Vice President for Development, the Director of Institutional Giving oversees and plays a key role in managing the Institute’s grants portfolio, which includes foundations, foreign government and multi-lateral organizations and accounts for a significant portion of the organization’s $30+ million in annual revenue. The position supervises and mentors three of the four members of the institutional giving team, including two Senior Development Associates and the Senior Development Manager. 

 

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player and innovative thinker who will serve as a thought-partner for the Vice President for Development, an inspiring leader for the Grants Team, and a productive member of the cross-divisional Management Team. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Working closely with the Vice President for Development, the Director sets multi-year revenue goals, implements fundraising plans and strategies, measures and reports on progress and adjusts work plans as needed to meet ambitious goals;
  • Oversees day-to-day operations of the grant fundraising team within the Development Division; 
  • Supervises and serves as a mentor to the Grants Team members, including the Senior Development Associates, and Senior Development Manager; 
  • Responsible for the Grants Team’s written grant proposals and reports for submission to foundations, government agencies and other institutional donors; 
  • Monitors sexual and reproductive health and rights issues and the priorities of foundations and other donors to suggest appropriate fundraising approaches; 
  • Manages the Division’s Institutional Giving donor portfolio system and ensures the integrity of the portfolio’s data in the Salesforce database;
  • Develops relationships with representatives at foundations, foreign government agencies, and multilateral organizations; 
  • Oversees the development and identification of new grants prospects; 
  • Liaises with key staff in other divisions to obtain input on grant proposals and reports as well as project budgets;
  • Collaborates with the VP and Director of Individual Giving to develop and oversee implementation of divisional policies and procedures;
  • Manages internal budgets for the Development Division;
  • Serves as an integral member of the Development Division’s Management Team; and; 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Qualifications: 

  • 7-10 years' development experience, including demonstrated experience preparing successful six-figure grant proposals for nonprofit organizations;
  • Experience developing and sustaining productive relationships with foundation staff, foreign government agencies, and multilateral organizations;
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills;
  • Excellent planning, strategy, financial, budgeting, and analytical skills;
  • Strong time management skills and proven ability to organize, expedite, and manage multiple complex projects and competing deadlines simultaneously;
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills;
  • A proven track record in building, managing, and mentoring a highly effective, diverse team;
  • Experience developing and implementing metrics to inform fundraising strategy and work;
  • Ability to travel occasionally; and
  • Knowledge of and interest in sexual and reproductive health, rights and justice.

 

Salary and benefits:

Salary starting at $138,000 to $175,000, commensurate with experience.
