Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Individual Giving
Manager will cultivate a community of individual donors and
families who support Breakthrough New York’s mission. They will
build relationships with individual donors and families and deepen
their connection to the organization through an intentional
stewardship program. Additionally, this role will provide
administrative support for our Board of Directors and Associates
Board, maximizing their involvement and impact on the
organization. Key Responsibilities
All full-time staff, seasonal staff, and volunteers at BTNY must be "up to date" with their COVID-19 vaccination. Individual Donor Relations (35%)
- Manage a portfolio of individual donors giving under $10K, raising $360K annually
- Create an annual stewardship plan with key touchpoints, including welcome series for new donors and other segment-driven strategies
- When needed, meet directly with donors/families to provide personalized stewardship and service
- Plan and execute event and campaign follow-up with donors, volunteers, and attendees
- Manage annual appeals, leading on data management, board coordination, and ask strategy
- Screen and source donor and board prospects from one-day and long-term volunteer pool
- Plan major donor reviews with Executive Director and Chief Development Officer and track next steps for cultivation and stewardship across the full individual giving portfolio
- Manage board governance paperwork, schedule full board and committee meetings, and provide additional administrative tasks as needed
- Plan and execute board stewardship program, such as recognition of birthdays milestones, community-building events, and offboarding
- Build board prospects pipeline through regular philanthropic screening, major donor portfolio reviews, and board network mapping
- Track fundraising and meeting attendance and prepare quarterly reports for senior management and Executive Committee on board performance
- Collect departments’ KPIs and prepare data snapshots for quarterly board reports
- Prepare bi-annual “give/get” reports for board members so they can thank their donors; prepare top-level analysis for board Executive Committee and senior management
Associates Board Management (15%)
- Manage board governance paperwork, schedule meetings, and provide additional administrative tasks as needed
- Plan and execute Associates Board stewardship program, such as recognition of birthdays milestones, community-building events, and offboarding
- Directly coach Executive Committee to meet deliverables around fundraising and volunteer recruitment targets
- Build partnerships with external organizations that can source and/or train new Associates Board candidates
- Track fundraising and meeting attendance and prepare quarterly reports for senior management and Executive Committee on board performance
- Submit all donations and supporting documentation in Salesforce
- Write and distribute gift receipts
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- Can build authentic relationships with external stakeholders, understand their motivations, and effectively influence them towards action
- Is organized, pays strong attention to details, and builds systems and processes to consistently deliver results
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to educational equity and comfortable discussing and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion among donors
- Has Salesforce or other CRM experience. Graphic design skills are a plus
- Has a Bachelor’s degree
- Experience with non-profit fundraising preferred but not required

- Annual Salary range is between $60,000 - $63,000 (commensurate with experience and skills) that is reviewed annually
