GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

The Deputy Chief Development Officer for Research, working with the Chief Development Officer for Research and Strategic Planning, manages the production, priorities, and deadlines of the Development Research team and works with clients in Development, as well as executive and curatorial offices, on the delivery of information that supports fundraising and institutional priorities.  The individual also maintains their own portfolio of research work, writing concise reports on funding prospects for Trustees, Senior Staff, and Development Staff, utilizing Lexis-Nexis and many other specialized online resources; identifying potential new donors for The Museum; and partnering with Development Staff in the creation of fundraising strategies.  The individual plays a key role in maintaining Department-wide data standards for prospect and portfolio management in Tessitura, the Museum’s CRM system, and in training staff who use the system. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Manage the production, priorities, and deadlines of Development Research and maintain relationships with the team’s clients
  • Write concise reports on funding prospects for Trustees, Senior Staff, and Development Staff; identify new potential funders; partner with Staff on creation of fundraising strategies
  • Analyze and report on news and financial and business information relevant to priorities and fundraising efforts of the Museum
  • Oversee Development Research team and provide ongoing training to staff in research methods and writing requirements
  • Maintain data standards for prospect and portfolio management in Tessitura and train staff who use the system; participate in setting policies for data entry and reporting
  • Maintain knowledge of current Development Research industry standards, new online resources and screening services, methods of information management, and issues related to ethics and confidentiality
  • Maintain knowledge of the team’s methods of statistical analysis and data mining, and participate in decision-making regarding data strategies
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Experience and Skills:

  • At least Five to seven years’ experience in fundraising research; experience managing a team preferred
  • Excellent research, writing, editing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and delegate accordingly
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills and experience with MS Office
  • Experience with Web-based research, SEC and financial documents, and online news retrieval systems; experience with Lexis-Nexis preferred
  • Experience with Tessitura or other major development software system; experience utilizing prospect tracking and prospect management functions of this software

 

Knowledge and Education:

  • BA or BS required
  • Interest in current events and news related to business, finance, philanthropy, and the arts; knowledge of key figures in business and finance, New York philanthropy, and the international art market preferred

 

Compensation Range:

  • Pay Range: $115,000 - $125,000
