The Director of Traditions and Class Affinity manages most activities related to life stages in the Alumni Relations office. This position is a primary contact and staff representative for 80 Reunion Weekend volunteers, Class Correspondents and all class-related volunteers.

The Alumni Relations team connects our 85,000 alumni to each other and back to Lehigh for the purpose of supporting the university's goals. All members of the team are expected to support Development and Alumni Relations key initiatives, major events, and projects as needed. 1. Produce Reunion for 14 milestone and their shoulder year classes every June
*Direct MarComm and Events team logistics work as the Business Lead for Lehigh's signature spring alumni event, which brings approximately 1,600 alumni and friends to campus
*Recruit and manage milestone class volunteers
*Drive establishment of Reunion attendance and fundraising goals with the Lehigh Fund, Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) Communications and Events teams
*Own the policies, procedures, standards and position descriptions for all Reunion Weekend volunteers
*Implement volunteer management best practices in terms of succession planning, appreciation, recognition and fundraising
*Work with the Events team and Volunteer Engagement Associate Director to award Reunion Class awards during Brown & White Night at Reunion
*Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to ensure business decisions around Reunion planning, communications and follow up are delivering the best return on investment

2. Design and execute a comprehensive strategy for transitioning students to first-year alumni
*Consider and develop activities that create supportive relationships among seasoned and brand-new alumni
*Educate graduating seniors about the value and power of the alumni network
*Engage and support young alumni by connecting them to regional and professional opportunities offered by Alumni Relations and other departments across campus
*Recruit the bell-ringer and direct the 50th class year during Commencement
*Produce Commencement-related gatherings through University Events including the First Generation and Legacy Lunch Celebrations

3. Steward the spirit of Lehigh Traditions with today's students and alumni
*Ensure that spirit activities managed by the Associate Director, Student Engagement including Bed Races, Little Brown Box, Lehigh Lafayette, Giving Day, etc. involve alumni and are communicated widely
*Recruit alumni volunteers to represent their classes at the Rally
*Modernize traditions to keep them relevant to today's students
*Evolve approaches to ensure popular traditions such as Reunions and Lehigh Lafayette tailgates continue to appeal to new generations of Lehigh alumni
*Develop new ways to connect alumni and students around Lehigh spirit

4. Manage the Class Correspondent volunteers and oversee the submission of Class Columns and obituaries for the Alumni Bulletin
*Supervise a freelance writer for editing and submission of Class Notes and Obituaries
*Ensure information submitted for class columns is captured in DAR database, and appropriate outreach to extraordinary alumni is completed
*Serve as point-person for the Lehigh Alumni Bulletin Editor
*Recruit and train Class Correspondents

5. Support other members of the Alumni Relations team and DAR colleagues and complete general office duties as expected
*Support programs housed within the Alumni Relations team, and others within DAR, to ensure successful outcomes. Programs include Reunion Weekend, Senior Salute (Commencement), Send Offs, Regional events, volunteer trainings, LUAA Board meetings, etc.
*Complete general office duties proactively in a timely manner including budget maintenance, timesheets, OneCard reconciliation, calendar maintenance, etc.
*Provide customer service to internal and external constituents as requested and needed
*Proactively assist alumni and staff (both internal and external to Alumni Relations) and problem-solve; suggest or initiate changes and improvements to departmental processes or procedures

Special Considerations

The duties of this position may allow the employee to work partially remote as deemed appropriate by the supervisor

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's Degree preferred

Three to five years related work experience

Experience with volunteer management, training, cultivating and structuring

Experience in higher education and nonprofits preferred

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Solid analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills

Ability to complete projects on time and on budget, and report on status and progress

Solid computer and digital engagement skills

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position

All Lehigh faculty and staff are required to be fully vaccinated and receive a booster shot six months after their second vaccine; unless they receive an approved medical or religious exemption from the requirement.
