We are seeking a Development Manager to help Pittsburgh United and Pennsylvania United achieve our fundraising goals. The Development Manager will work in close partnership with the Executive Director to help coordinate the organization’s development function and support effective donor solicitations, donor communications, grant portfolio management and events. Our fundraising philosophy begins with abundance. The resources that we need exist in the world and the job of the Development Department is to organize money, much in the same way that our field staff organize in their communities. The Development Manager must share this philosophy of fundraising. The intent for this position is to become a Senior Level Director role within two years.
Ideally this position would be based in Pittsburgh, PA, but we will consider applicants outside of Pittsburgh who would be working remotely.
Job responsibilities:
-
Plan Development and Implementation:
Support the Executive Director in developing an annual fundraising
plan that includes foundation grants, union donations, dues-paying
membership, individual donor development, and fundraising events.
Work with the Executive Director and the Senior Leadership Team to
implement the plan’s strategies;
Foundation Grants: Support the
Executive Director’s work to expand foundation grant opportunities
by maintaining relationships with foundation staff, managing grant
application materials and drafting content, tracking the
fulfillment of existing grant deliverables, and writing interim and
final grant reports;
Individual Giving: Identify and
recruit new individual donors, with a particular focus on expanding
political giving to Pennsylvania United and PA United PAC;
Fundraising Events: Support the
organization’s annual fundraiser and other ongoing fundraising
events through creation of outreach materials, donor recruitment
calls, and event logistics;
Membership Communications: Ensure
members receive ongoing communications through a quarterly
newsletter and annual reports;
Reporting and Evaluation: Evaluate
all efforts and progress toward goals; develop periodic reports
with suggestions for adjustment of fundraising strategies where
necessary; regularly communicate work and successes to funders and
donors;
Systems and Infrastructure: Maintain
up to date donor lists, foundation and grant records, and grant
deadlines; manage an internal calendar of regular donor
communications and appointments with donors/foundations;
Organizing Culture- Work with the
leadership team to develop and maintain participation of all staff
in organizing money, making asks, and communicating with and
appreciating donors/members.
Qualifications:
-
3-5 years experience in non-profit
fundraising and development for small to mid-sized nonprofits with
demonstrated experience working on a successful development
campaign;
Demonstrated commitment to social,
racial and economic justice;
Strong verbal, written and
organizational skills;
Strong interpersonal skills and
ability to work creatively with a diverse team;
Ability to lead multiple projects
simultaneously, ensuring a team meets all related deadlines, while
maintaining the ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage
their own work independently;
Commitment to professional ethics
when working with confidential, sensitive information;
Extensive computer skills, including
experience working with electronic donor tracking
systems/databases;
Experience with the use of social
media for marketing or fundraising campaigns preferred but not
required;
Experience with fundraising for both
501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations, preferred but not
required;
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
