We are seeking a Development Manager to help Pittsburgh United and Pennsylvania United achieve our fundraising goals. The Development Manager will work in close partnership with the Executive Director to help coordinate the organization’s development function and support effective donor solicitations, donor communications, grant portfolio management and events. Our fundraising philosophy begins with abundance. The resources that we need exist in the world and the job of the Development Department is to organize money, much in the same way that our field staff organize in their communities. The Development Manager must share this philosophy of fundraising. The intent for this position is to become a Senior Level Director role within two years.

Ideally this position would be based in Pittsburgh, PA, but we will consider applicants outside of Pittsburgh who would be working remotely.

Job responsibilities: 

    Plan Development and Implementation: Support the Executive Director in developing an annual fundraising plan that includes foundation grants, union donations, dues-paying membership, individual donor development, and fundraising events. Work with the Executive Director and the Senior Leadership Team to implement the plan’s strategies; Foundation Grants: Support the Executive Director’s work to expand foundation grant opportunities by maintaining relationships with foundation staff, managing grant application materials and drafting content, tracking the fulfillment of existing grant deliverables, and writing interim and final grant reports; Individual Giving: Identify and recruit new individual donors, with a particular focus on expanding political giving to Pennsylvania United and PA United PAC; Fundraising Events: Support the organization’s annual fundraiser and other ongoing fundraising events through creation of outreach materials, donor recruitment calls, and event logistics; Membership Communications: Ensure members receive ongoing communications through a quarterly newsletter and annual reports; Reporting and Evaluation: Evaluate all efforts and progress toward goals; develop periodic reports with suggestions for adjustment of fundraising strategies where necessary; regularly communicate work and successes to funders and donors; Systems and Infrastructure: Maintain up to date donor lists, foundation and grant records, and grant deadlines; manage an internal calendar of regular donor communications and appointments with donors/foundations; Organizing Culture- Work with the leadership team to develop and maintain participation of all staff in organizing money, making asks, and communicating with and appreciating donors/members.

 

Qualifications: 

    3-5 years experience in non-profit fundraising and development for small to mid-sized nonprofits with demonstrated experience working on a successful development campaign; Demonstrated commitment to social, racial and economic justice; Strong verbal, written and organizational skills; Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work creatively with a diverse team; Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring a team meets all related deadlines, while maintaining the ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage their own work independently; Commitment to professional ethics when working with confidential, sensitive information; Extensive computer skills, including experience working with electronic donor tracking systems/databases; Experience with the use of social media for marketing or fundraising campaigns preferred but not required; Experience with fundraising for both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations, preferred but not required; Valid U.S. driver’s license.

 

COVID-19 Vaccination requirement: 

Employees must be vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 before their start date as a condition of employment at PGH and PA United. Employees are considered vaccinated two weeks after completing primary vaccination with a COVID-19 vaccine, with, if applicable, at least the minimum recommended interval between doses. Employees are considered boosted if they have received one or more booster shots in accordance with the eligibility requirements set forth by the Center for Disease Control. Candidates are only required to have received vaccines and boosters for which they are eligible under the CDC’s guidelines, and if hired, will be required to receive any COVID-19 vaccines or boosters they become eligible for during employment.
