Founded in 2011, CorpsAfrica is a not-for-profit organization that recruits and places ambitious young Africans in remote, high-poverty communities in their own countries to facilitate small-scale, high-impact projects that are identified by the community. For one year, the volunteers organize community meetings to engage the community to identify and address change and complex local needs in education, health, small business development, urban planning and infrastructure, agriculture, and the environment. The experience of living and working with local communities allows volunteers to gain a deeper understanding of the problems facing their fellow citizens while enriching the Volunteers’ personal and professional development. Volunteers partner with community leaders and members to co-create and implement sustainable solutions to improve lives, build resilience, and create better economic outcomes for all.
In December 2022, Mastercard Foundation announced an increase in their commitment to $60 million over five years. This gift will dramatically expand the scope of CorpsAfrica’s programs and enhance the capacity of its programs and administration.
CorpsAfrica seeks an inaugural Chief Development Officer (CDO) who will assess and create a strategic fundraising plan and execute towards it to expand and diversify income sources. S/he will steward and further leverage CorpsAfrica’s transformational gifts while systematically identifying and targeting new individual, corporate, and foundation prospects. The CDO will provide vital resource leadership development during, and beyond, this historic moment of organizational transition and growth. Passion and commitment to CorpsAfrica’s mission, vision, and core values is a prerequisite for the successful CDO.
The CDO will recruit, build, and mentor a team of fundraising professionals and create policies and procedures to ensure staff collaboration and accountability through quantitative measurement of results. The candidate will be a spokesperson and advocate for CorpsAfrica’s mission, cultural values, and Volunteers in the philanthropic community.
The successful candidate will build compelling cases for support to increase national and international philanthropy. S/he will partner across the organization to lead the creation and implementation of grassroots fundraising programs in CorpsAfrica’s member countries. In parallel, the candidate will develop gift policies to address strategic partnerships and collaborative relationships. S/he will oversee implementation of operational best practices, including systems for proper gift recording and effective donor stewardship.
The CDO will report to the Founder and Executive Director and strategically engage her in public outreach, Board expansion, and fundraising activities, providing meaningful engagement opportunities and philanthropic support.
