Marketing Director - Fundraising

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Marketing Director-Fundraising leads the donor marketing team in creating donor awareness, affinity, acquisition, and engagement. In partnership with the fundraising teams, this position is also responsible for developing, implementing, and driving the advancement of data-driven marketing strategies that support donor development objectives to engage, acquire, and retain donors.


 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Steward the mission, vision, values, and culture of WWP and provide leadership to the Business Development/Fundraising Marketing Team.

  • Build brand awareness, engagement, adoption, and advocacy for the WWP mission and strategic fundraising initiatives through integrated marketing efforts.

  • Lead strategic planning and implementation efforts, provide strategy oversight, and ensure a consistent focus on donor acquisition and engagement.

  • Partner with leadership across Marketing, Communications, and Fundraising teams to establish strategies and business objectives for donor initiatives with peer-to-peer fundraising, corporate partnerships & sponsorships, and major gifts & foundations teams.

  • Lead the planning process and oversee the development of innovative, multichannel marketing plans for donor marketing efforts.

  • Direct the continual assessment, refinement, and implementation of donor acquisition and engagement plans (including digital and web properties).

  • Oversee vendor and agency relationships to ensure effectiveness and success. Manage RFPs, contracts, and relationships between WWP agencies and vendors.

  • Oversee and manage the relationship with internal/external partners for fundraising marketing events activations

  • Lead the development, maintenance, and improvement of departmental procedures and best practices.

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets. Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop, maintain and optimize budget and spend.

  • Research & identify veteran service organization and non-profit donor trends and other marketing trends to inform data-driven marketing strategies, ensuring WWP marketing approaches are informed, in context, relevant, competitive, differentiated, and effective.

  • Assess all activities and initiatives against plan objectives and pre-determined business objectives. Monitor and report on results and effectiveness to ensure goals are measured, managed, and achieved.

  • Utilize data to monitor progress, make data-informed decisions, and recommend action.

  • Build rapport and manage relationships with executive leadership, internal stakeholders, and external agencies.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

  • Solid supervisory skills to manage team of marketing managers and specialists.

  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

EXPERIENCE:

Requirements:

  • Seven years experience in a leadership marketing, donor, or client service-based role.

  • Five years of staff management experience.

  • Three years of lead generation experience.

  • Two years of experience utilizing customer relationship management, marketing automation, or donor marketing systems (e.g., Salesforce, Marketing Cloud, Donor Drive, Classy, DonorPerfect, etc.)

 

Preferences:

  • Ten years experience in Marketing, Development, or Fundraising.

  • Three years of non-profit and fundraising experience.

  • Three years experience leading integrated teams.

 

EDUCATION:

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, advertising, non-profit management, or related field.

Preferences:

  • Master’s degree in business, marketing, advertising, non-profit management, or related field.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • General office environment; temperature controlled.

  • Up to 20% travel.

  • May require lifting/carrying items up to 25 pounds.

  • Routinely uses standard office equipment, e.g., copiers, phones, computers, filing cabinets.

  • Sitting for extended periods.
