SUMMARY OF POSITION

PHI's Director of Communication drives and oversees the organization's award-winning communications strategies, including its marketing, public education, media relations, and digital media efforts. As part of the PHI Policy Team, the Director of Communications ensures brand and messaging consistency across all projects and platforms and works closely with department and executive leadership to promote widely the organization's unique mission of quality care through quality jobs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive and oversee PHI's communications strategies, public education, and marketing to external audiences and the media, including short- and long-term projects that ensure the appropriate resources, channels, and tactics are in place to successfully implement communication plans.
  • Act as a primary advocate for the organization's brand, ensuring brand consistency across all projects and print and digital materials, and work with key staff members to promote their brand recognition in various fields and the media.
  • Work closely with department leadership and executive leadership to develop an overarching message platform, creating program- and project-specific messaging and talking points.
  • Develop marketing campaigns to promote PHI’s core service lines and new products, managing campaign strategy, execution, and evaluation, as well as budgets and vendor relationships.
  • Lead PHI's digital and social media activities, including our primary website and social media pages on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn—and work with the Executive Vice President of Policy and department leadership to develop year-long social media and e-newsletter calendars.
  • Manage the organization’s media relations and public affairs, writing and disseminating regular press releases, building and maintaining an expanding media list of reporters, and cultivating relationships with select journalists.
  • Work with graphic designer to design a range of print and digital publications, including reports, briefs, fact sheets, visualizations, social media creative assets, and marketing materials.
  • Oversee PHI’s news and opinion blog, coordinating and editing weekly articles from staff and consultants, and authoring original articles and op-eds, as needed.
  • Produce PHI’s monthly e-newsletter, working with department leadership to identify an eclectic mix of new stories to feature the organization’s cross-functional strategies.
  • Lead PHI’s Direct Care Worker Story Project, working closely with employers and workers to capture their stories through interviews and photographs, publishing them on PHI’s website.
  • Monitor progress and evaluate the impact of PHI's communications projects, producing post-campaign and year-end summary reports.
  • Strategically partner with relevant organizations to amplify the release of new organizational products and publications, working closely with their communications staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience in communications, journalism, and/or public relations/marketing required, preferably on issues related to workforce development, aging, disability, long-term care, and/or social and racial justice.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write in a variety of formats for a range of audiences (i.e., press releases, blog articles, marketing publications, and web and social media writing).
  • Strong project management, interpersonal, organizational, communication, and presentation skills required.
  • Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously, often under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency with computer applications is required, including experience and/or willingness to learn Microsoft Office, WordPress, Canva, MailChimp, and Hootsuite, among others.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working effectively with diverse individuals and groups.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

This position reports to PHI’s Executive Vice President of Policy.

LOCATION

PHI’s national headquarters are at 261 Madison Avenue, Suite 913, New York, NY, 10016. Remote candidates will be considered for this position.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time, salaried position with a base salary range of $125,000 - $132,500 per year, commensurate with skills and experience.

PHI provides a comprehensive benefits package effective on the date of hire. Health benefits include: a sponsored medical plan, an employer-paid dental plan, and an optional vision insurance plan.
