Energy for the Common Good (ECG) is a non-profit organization uniquely positioned to advance the acceptance of fusion energy as an integral part of a clean energy economy. ECG plays a pivotal role in setting the stage for broad acceptance of fusion, a means for actionable collaboration within energy planning that is essential to the rollout of fusion energy across all relevant power segments, growing fusion’s markets with public support. We are hiring an experienced Development Director to lead expansion of our funding stream, thus allowing growth of our team critical to realizing our mission.

Position Summary: Reporting directly to the Co-founder/Managing Director, the Development Director oversees and is responsible for all of ECG’s fundraising efforts. The Development Director builds and manages relationships with individuals and organizations to secure philanthropic support for the organization, maximizes ongoing donor relationships, drives expansion of new major donor ranks, and expands foundation, government, and corporate fundraising. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan to expand philanthropic support for the organization and its programs with the goal of significantly raising funding annually
  • Identify potential donors from diverse sources, including individuals, foundations, government, and private grantmaking bodies
  • Implement strategies to foster strong donor stewardship, including establishing and maintaining regular communications, ensuring appropriate donor gift acknowledgement, and creating reports for major donors
  • Identify opportunities, apply for, and manage grant funding
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations
  • Regularly report on program progress to senior management and the board
  • Communicate fundraising goals within the organization and identify opportunities for team members to improve results through their work
  • Maintain fresh, interesting print and electronic fundraising materials
  • Create and oversee fundraising and donor stewardship events
  • Manage software systems to cultivate and track donors and prospects, including the fundraising database and wealth screening tools
  • Network at selected community and leadership events
  • Other duties as identified

 Qualifications for Development Director:

  • 5-7 years of major gift experience
  • Demonstrated results raising funds from new donors and examples of positive outcomes
  • Experience managing and tracking donor contributions and organizing gathered data
  • Exceptional references, minimum of three with at least one major donor
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly as need presents
  • Ability to work well in a diverse group
  • Exceptional verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Salesforce and Daylite experience desirable

Salary and Benefits:

Salary range $100,000 - 120,000, commensurate with experience. 60% employer-covered health insurance. Comprehensive time-off package including federal holidays, vacation, and sick leave. Continuing education and professional development.
