As part of Cooper Hewitt’s Advancement Department, the Sponsorship Manager supports the museum’s corporate program, which includes contributed and sponsorship revenue from corporations and corporate foundations in support of museum exhibitions, education programs, special initiatives, and general operations. The position reports to the Chief Advancement Officer and liaises with colleagues in the Advancement Department, at Cooper Hewitt, and across the entire Smithsonian Institution to manage and advance corporate relationships.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent is responsible for supporting annual contributed revenue goals through prospect qualification; developing, writing, and editing effective pitch materials and requests for support; executing gift agreements; managing and building the corporate membership program; organizing engagement events and activations; and collaborating with the Events Director to leverage corporate participation in the events program. Responsibilities also include compliance with policies and guidelines, general correspondence and invitations, budget oversight, acknowledgements, and recordkeeping.

 

The incumbent plans and manages a calendar of engagement activity, including the timely submission of required reports and the delivery of benefits and activations. They collaborate with colleagues and volunteer leaders to elicit information, align proposals with upcoming program offerings and to fulfil reporting requirements. They identify growth areas and opportunities in the corporate sector. They track, analyze and report on fundraising results.

 

The incumbent will take on other duties as assigned, including representing the museum and interacting with a wide range of colleagues and supporters, participating in development-related special events that entail some evening and weekend hours.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

A minimum of five years’ experience in stakeholder relationship management in nonprofit organizations, or in a complementary/equivalent role such as sales or marketing.

 

A demonstrated track record of success.

 

Familiarity with or interest in Cooper Hewitt’s mission and programs.

 

Effective communication skills, attention to detail and organization.

 

Entrepreneurship and team spirit, the ability to take both initiative and direction, and a comfort level with problem-solving and prioritization.

 

Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office and relational databases)

 

SALARY RANGE: $76,961 to $79,526
The Smithsonian uses the General Schedule (GS) pay scale for Trust and Federally funded positions. This is a Trust funded position at

Grade 11 / Step 1 – 2.

 

TEMPORARY TRUST APPOINTMENT: One-year full-time appointment that may be extended beyond the one year (based on performance and budget).

 

WORK LOCATION:

A telework policy is in place across the Smithsonian and is expected to continue, with a requirement for onsite work between one and three days per week.
