Climate Rights International (CRI) is
seeking a Development Manager. CRI is a new international climate
and human rights monitoring and advocacy organization dedicated to
preventing and addressing climate-change related human rights
abuses; holding governments, corporations and financial
institutions accountable for climate-related harms; and working to
limit excessive greenhouse gas emissions and support climate
mitigation and adaptation efforts.
Reporting to the Executive Director,
the Development Manager will participate actively in the
fundraising and related communication strategy by 1) assisting in
developing and maintaining a portfolio of individual and
institutional supporters, and 2) preparing grant proposals to
foundations and other institutional donors.
This full-time position will be based
in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate will work
remotely. We anticipate that the successful candidate will begin
this position in the first half of 2023.
Job responsibilities include:
- Work with the Executive Director and other CRI staff to build and implement CRI’s fundraising strategy;
- Research, identify, cultivate, and solicit philanthropic commitments from current supporters and prospective donors, including individuals, foundations and other philanthropic entities;
- Assist with grant writing and report writing, including with respect to foundations.
- Manage the production and logistics of fundraising, outreach, and cultivation events, including researcher briefings, advocacy, conferences, and privately hosted dinners;
- Manage communications with CRI supporters;
- Create and maintain a database of supporters and prospects;
- Present the work of CRI to existing and prospective supporters;
- Help create and regularly monitor the development budget;
- Create agendas, prepare background materials, and conduct follow-up to meetings;
- Supervise support staff, interns and volunteers as required;
- Deliver output in a timely manner consistent with the agreed strategy and priorities of the organization; and
- Perform other tasks, as required.
- Education: A bachelor’s degree.
- Experience: Philanthropy or fundraising experience required. Donor management experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills to work collaboratively within CRI as well as with external partners are required.
- Commitment to climate and human rights issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of CRI.
- Creativity, initiative, follow-through and excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Ability to effectively build donor and volunteer relationships.
- Ability to multi-task effectively, including having good planning and organizing skills and ability to work well under pressure.
- Strong computer skills. Experience with Salesforce, CRM software and knowledge of social media are desirable.
