The Friday Morning Music Club seeks a Managing Director to oversee all administrative aspects of its operations.

 

Job Title: Managing Director

Reports To: FMMC Board President

FLSA Status: Full time, exempt

About FMMC: Organization founded in 1886 for musicians and music lovers to make and share music together

Salary and Benefits: $60,000 annual salary. 100% reimbursed health insurance up to $500 per month via Healthcare.gov. Professional development opportunities. Two weeks PTO, 5 personal days, 11 federal holidays, and annual 5-day office closure between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Work Location: Fully remote. Office mailing address located at Calvary Baptist Church, 755 8th Street NW, Washington DC. Expected to attend most concerts of the FMMC Avanti Orchestra and Arioso Chorale (occasional nights and weekends). Occasional attendance required at chamber music concerts, particularly the Friday Series. All events take place in the DC Metro Area, including Maryland and Virginia.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Development/Fundraising—Play a major role in fundraising
  • Define, develop, and implement an annual fundraising plan, encompassing all aspects of giving, with particular emphasis on attracting new donors.
  • Work to deepen the organization’s ties to the greater Washington DC community and build strategic relationships with business and community partners through sponsorships and advertising opportunities.
  • Maintain FMMC’s existing grant portfolio and pursue additional grant opportunities. Ensure that grants meet all spending and reporting requirements. Actively participate in developing grant applications.
  • Continue to develop data-capturing strategies to better identify audience information and prospective donors at events that often do not require tickets or payment to attend.
  • Maintain FMMC’s donor database on Bloomerang (a Salesforce CRM), running reports of data entered by FMMC’s Administrative Coordinator, and develop mailing lists for all fundraising campaigns.
  • Oversee and update all print and online donor forms and fundraising materials, coordinating with Administrative Coordinator, contracted designer, and printer as appropriate.

 

  • Public Relations/Marketing/Communications—Work with the Public Relations Committee to develop and implement a comprehensive public relations campaign
    • Work with the Public Relations Committee to develop and implement ideas for enhancing public awareness of FMMC.
    • Serve as principal staff spokesperson/liaison for FMMC for non-artistic matters, with advice and direction from Board members.
    • Maintain our social media presence (Facebook), including a separate account for FMMC’s Avanti Orchestra. Explore other possible social media platforms in tandem with the Digital Media Board Director.
    • Maintain FMMC’s MailChimp account, distributing communications throughout the season.
    • Work with orchestra and chorale managers, as well as chamber venue chairs, to develop printed and digital programs using Canva templates. Ensure printed informational materials are on hand at all FMMC concerts throughout the season.
    • Update and maintain the FMMC website. Coordinate as necessary with website developer, Zero Defect Design.

     

  • Membership—Maintain and increase membership in the Club
    • Work in tandem with the Yearbook representative on the Board, the administrative coordinator, and designer to create the annual FMMC Yearbook and Directory, compiling all membership and season information from key FMMC stakeholders.
    • Maintain the FMMC Membership Database on the FMMC website.
    • Implement FMMC’s annual membership renewal campaign each spring, both in print and on the website.
    • Work with the Board to develop and implement strategies to solicit greater engagement among members, in terms of volunteering, making monetary contributions, and joining the Legacy Society.
    • Build the Performance Application Database in Google Sheets using data submitted via the website for venue chairs to make performance solicitations throughout the year.
  •  

  • Administration—Is responsible for day-to-day Club operations
    • Maintain all databases including the member, newsletter, and donor lists.
    • Ensure that FMMC’s business affairs are attended to, including:
    • Collect mail at FMMC mailing address if the administrative coordinator is unavailable to do so.
    • Keep FMMC’s business licenses in good standing with the IRS and DC Government, particularly the Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) and the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP).
    • Maintain accurate and complete records of financial contributions and invoices in tandem with the Administrative Coordinator.
    • Negotiate performance agreements between FMMC and ancillary concert spaces as necessary before final approval by either the President or the Treasurer.
    • Oversee the use of the FMMC Zoom account. Coordinate with the Board of Directors to host virtual and hybrid board meetings via Zoom once per month.
    • Manage and maintain FMMC’s G-Suite account, including group and individual emails with the official FMMC domain. Assist new board members onboarding to their individual email accounts.
    • Assist FMMC Board members with ad hoc or specific projects (especially projects concerned with communicating with current members, increasing membership, and public relations) as needed.
    • Assist specific committees within FMMC as needed.
    • Attend all meetings of the Board of Governors and at least two meetings a year of the Foundation Board. Prepare and present reports for each meeting and for other committee meetings as appropriate.

     

  • Concert Operations—Assist venue chairs with FMMC Concert Programs
    • Act as front-of-house manager at Arioso Chorale and Avanti Orchestra concerts in tandem with Chorale and Orchestra managers. Distribute programs and collect donations/audience surveys.
    • Fill in for Program Manager or venue chairs as a concert host if they are unable to attend chamber concerts throughout the season.
    • Update photography and video releases as necessary for specific concerts, distributing them to performers and ensuring compliance
    • Ensure printed informational materials are on hand at all FMMC concerts throughout the season
  •  

  • FMMC Foundation—Assist Foundation Director as requested
    • Maintain and update the FMMC Foundation website in collaboration with Competition Chair for the Washington International Competition and the Administrative Director for the Johansen International Competition.
    • Ensure cross-promotion between the FMMC website and the FMMC Foundation website.
    • Develop and oversee ticket reservation system for the WIC Finals and WIC events at the Kennedy Center.

     


     

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

    • 3-5 years’ experience in non-profit administration and leadership with an emphasis in fundraising and marketing, preferably in the performing arts or classical music
    • College degree or equivalent experience required in relevant field
    • Self-starter with an ability to think strategically and work collaboratively with enthusiastic volunteers and stakeholders with varying experience
    • Strong writing and communications skills
    • Proven experience with grant writing

     

    WORK TECHNOLOGY

    • Familiarity with WordPress and HTML scripting language to maintain the FMMC and Foundation websites
    • Proficiency with CRM systems, familiarity with Bloomerang (Salesforce-based) platform
    • Strong understanding of Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
    • Experience with Canva or the Adobe Design Suite
    • Personal technology required. This position does not distribute a home computer or laptop but does provide relevant subscriptions to the Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office.
