Brown Girls Doc Mafia (BGDM)’s mission is to nurture, amplify, and invest in the creative capacity and professional success of BIPOC women and nonbinary people working in the documentary industry.
THE ROLEBGDM is seeking a Development Manager to join our growing team. They should be a highly motivated team player with the ability to work independently. Their primary role is to create, oversee and implement creative y fundraising campaigns. They will also network with potential funders and members of the industry at large, cultivating connections to ensure the overall health and sustainability of the organization.
The Development Manager position is a salaried position that will manage BGDM’s community-centric fundraising strategy. This position will work closely with the Executive Director and BGDM’s senior management team (operations, communications, and artist programs). We prefer candidates based in New York and Los Angeles but can be flexible on location. Some travel will be required.
Primary Responsibilities Overall Fundraising Strategy-
Oversee annual fundraising goals for
three income streams (grants, individual giving, corporate
sponsorship).
Work with senior management to
develop new revenue streams (membership, advertising, sponsored
events, and merchandise)
Cultivate, nurture, and formalize
relationships with current and prospective individual funders,
foundations, government, and corporations who are aligned with our
values and principles
Attend doc industry events to pitch
BGDM and network with key constituencies
Collaborate with BGDM staff to
implement fundraising events

Identify prospective grant
opportunities, conduct research, and write grants in close
collaboration with department heads
Manage all aspects of grant
administration, from submission of grant proposals to
reports

Innovate and implement ongoing
fundraising campaigns, annual End-of-Year appeals, and other
special fundraising initiatives
Develop and manage a portfolio of
prospective donors and sponsors to approach in collaboration with
the Executive Director, and conduct appropriate engagement
activities.
Manage monthly donation reports and
donor recognition lists on the BGDM website and annual reports
Prepare donor and sponsorship decks,
proposals, and reports

At least 4 to 6 years of experience
in a non-profit development/fundraising department
Innovative, creative, out of the box
thinker who isn’t afraid to push boundaries of conventional
fundraising approaches
Excellent planning and project
management skills, and ability to take initiative, set and respond
to priorities, and drive projects forward from conception to
completion.
Able to work collaboratively across
departments to effectively implement development and communication
goals and strategies
Have a strong self-reflective
practice, humility during miscommunication, and grace to
relearn
Organized with excellent attention to
detail
Strong writing, editing, and
proofreading skills

Experience working in media
arts
Grant writing and membership
experience
Experience using Neon CRM
Have established relationships within
the philanthropic sector
Understand the history of
philanthropy and can implement and execute anti-racist and
restorative development strategies

events)

Salary:
$70,000 - $90,000/year, and is commensurate with
experience
Perm: This role is
initially an Independent Contractor (1090) for up to three
months with the opportunity and expectation of full-time (W2) employment with a
