and Outreach! This position is a critical part of the Alumni
Association team within the Office of Advancement at CU Boulder. At
the Alumni Association, we value our people, our team and our
community. Our organization is called to reach, serve and engage
the 300,000 current and future alumni to invoke passion, honor
tradition, celebrate accomplishments and instill CU in all hearts
and minds. This position will support and expand engagement with
the network of Affinity Clubs affiliated with the Alumni
Association. The identity-based Affinity Clubs are currently the
Forever Buffs Black Alumni, Forever Buffs LatinX, Forever Buffs
American Indian, Forever Buffs LGBTQ and Forever Buffs Veterans.
The activity-based Affinity Clubs are Forever Buffs Silver Buffs
(marching band alumni), Forever Buffs Air Force ROTC, Forever Buffs
Presidents Leadership Class and Forever Buffs
CenterWest.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be Affinity Group Operational Support and Growth
- Act as the primary liaison to the Affinity Groups. In that capacity, work to support the affinity groups by focusing on organization and prioritizing the needs of each group. Drive impact by developing the protocols needed to ensure Affinity groups feel supported and can grow their communities.
- Create annual operating plans for each affinity group with tactics for achieving goals.
- Support and cultivate leaders in each affinity group, implement leadership succession plans, and support recruitment efforts.
- Work collaboratively across the Advancement division and CU Boulder campus to identify viable groups and potential leaders to build relationships and expand the number of Affinity Clubs affiliated with the Alumni Association.
- The Affinity Clubs promote their activities through Alumni Association channels of email, website and social media; this position will act as the liaison between club leadership and the marketing communications manager to facilitate marketing activities.
- Duties include reviewing chapter email/web content, editing content using AP style guidelines, ensuring there is a strong call to action and emails are sent on time, and reporting on results.
- Work in partnership with Volunteer Engagement Manager to coordinate messaging and processes to ensure volunteers for both clubs and chapters are getting consistent information.
- This position will guide and collaborate with volunteer alumni leaders on a wide range of events and issues, ensuring the university's mission is being carried out and that the alumni clubs are representing the university in the best possible way. Affinity Club leaders are volunteer representatives of the university and will be trained to operate on behalf of the mission and vision of the institution. This position helps to plan university events, advises groups on organizational structure, communicates standard processes for club engagement planning, communication and marketing.
- Work with Affinity Club leadership to help organize and support them for more successful engagement and outreach activities.
- Focus on driving meaningful engagement for each group that include opportunities for high-touch, high-impact experiences and linkage with students
- Ideate, plan, support and implement successful Affinity-based graduation ceremonies each May in collaboration with the Sr. Manager of Student Outreach & Philanthropy.
- Leverage communication around graduation ceremonies to inform and develop a pipeline of new alumni that can get involved with Affinity Clubs post-graduation.
- Work in collaboration with engagement team to ideate, plan and implement a Reunion program that provides opportunities to expand engagement and fundraising among affinity groups.
- Based on input from Affinity Club leaders, develop protocols and support systems that help provide a safe space and foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity at our larger Alumni Association engagements to increase representation overtime of those communities.
- Work across the Advancement division to support other units and share successful strategies to help their engagement activities be more inclusive and create a sense of belonging for our underserved populations.
- In collaboration with associate director, build awareness and relationships campus-wide to contribute to and support the work of the Advancement division to build engagement and belonging for affinity student and alumni populations.
- Collaborate with Sr. Program Manager of Forever Buffs Student Engagement & Philanthropy, and student-based organizations to build bridges between students and alumni clubs to demonstrate the value of the Forever Buffs network for the students.
- Help facilitate student to alumni mentorship relationships for underserved populations using the established Forever Buffs Network.
- In support of student success and retention initiatives, work to connect alumni with students and build opportunities for social gatherings with alumni and students to build a strong and supportive network in each community.
- Work with Alumni leadership and across the campus to develop relationships with key affinity groups such as institute/center directors and staff, student organizations, faculty/staff, and affinity club leaders to better understand key priorities and where the greatest impact can be made. Help to facilitate meetings and implement plans identified to move priorities forward.
- Work across the Advancement division to establish relationships and foster conversations and discussions on how we make our work more inclusive.
- Find opportunities to introduce and recruit more diverse lived experiences to the volunteer network, especially the board experience, across the division and the campus.
- Responsible for special projects as requested by management. Performs other duties as assigned. This position requires the ability to speak publicly regularly. Fosters positive morale with all staff members and volunteers.

What We Require
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years of professional, job-related experience.
- Professional work experience in volunteer engagement or project management.
- Experience working in a relationship management or customer service role with success working with a diverse group of volunteers and/or customers.
- Experience working with marketing communications and a solid understanding of the marketing process.
- Strong relationship management skills.
- Conflict resolution skills.
- Organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- 60 lbs. lifting requirement for event set up.
- Ability to recruit and manage volunteers.
- Knowledge of nonprofits and community-based organizations.
- Higher education/Alumni Association experience.
- Graduate of CU Boulder.
- Experience managing volunteers in a higher education or nonprofit setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in ethnic studies, organizational leadership, communication, business or another related field.
- Communications and copywriting skills, including knowledge of AP style guidelines.
- A current resume.
