The Major Gift Officer will develop and manage a portfolio of 75- 150 prospects with capacity to make gifts at $50,000 and higher. The gift officer will have wide latitude to develop strategies and tactics to secure significant support for initiatives across the institution including unrestricted support, capital projects, endowment and deferred gifts. This person will work closely with other gift officers and senior staff to identify, cultivate and ultimately solicit major gift prospects.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and manage a portfolio of 75-150 high level donors
- Create and implement strategies and tactics to:
- Identify Prospects
- Cultivate Donors
- Solicit gifts of $50,000 and higher
- Provide thoughtful and personal stewardship
- Collaborate with Senior Staff and Program Staff
- To provide meaningful engagement
- Cater to the interest of the donor
- Enable donors to meet with subject matter experts
- Act as an ambassador for Mystic Seaport Museum
Requirements:
- Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination and booster by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination will be required.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Five or more years of advancement experience with progressive responsibilities
- Proven experience as a solicitor of major gifts
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
- A strict attention to detail
- Superior time/ project management skills
- Solid computer skills capable of adapting to current and
emerging software programs
- Proficiency with Microsoft software suite and fundraising- CRM software
- Experience with Tessitura strongly desired
- Ability to exercise good judgement
- A demonstrated creativity and organizational ability
- Good understanding of protocol and etiquette with the ability to employ tact in difficult situations
- Talent for working closely with diverse teams of people in order to accomplish complex tasks and initiatives on schedule and on budget
- Ability to adapt to constantly evolving priorities with a positive, confident spirit
- Other job-related education/experience may be substituted for part of these requirements
