Mississippi Park Connection seeks a strategic, creative, and insightful leader to grow the impact of this extraordinary park partner organization and ensure its stewardship mission, partnerships, programs, and fundraising continue to thrive.

Mississippi Park Connection (MPC) was founded in 2007 with the mission to promote the protection, restoration, and enjoyment of the river and its surrounding parkland. Through its various programs and initiatives, MPC works to increase awareness and understanding of the cultural, historical, and natural resources of the river, and to encourage stewardship of these resources by the local community. MPC also partners with other organizations and agencies to advocate for policies and practices that support the long-term health and resilience of the river and its ecosystem.

MPC is headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota and serves the greater Twin Cities metropolitan area. Since its founding, MPC has contributed more than $6 million to the National Park Service and its many partners in the community.

MPC is poised to grow and increase is presence and impact on behalf of the park and community. Through significant growth opportunites—such as the River Learning Center, a transformative collaboration and fundraising effort—the Executive Director will have the opportunity to make an impact from day one.

MPC seeks a forward-thinking, collaborative leader to carry the organization forward in its mission and partnerships. The Executive Director is responsible for overall leadership and administration of the organization. This includes setting strategic direction, overseeing the development and implementation of programs and services, managing budgets and financial resources, and leading a small team of dynamic staff and volunteers. The Executive Director represents the organization to funders, partners, and the community  and works closely with the National Park Service superintendent, the Twin Cities community, Congress, and local governments and agencies.

The Executive Director must be an inclusive, thoughtful, strategic leader committed to MPC’s mission with the interpersonal skills and experience to develop the MPC team. The Executive Director will advance MPC’s diversity, equity, and inclusion practices, build on MPC’s initiatives to engage communities of color, and develop long-term relationships and collaborations with local government and park leadership. They will be the voice and face of the organization and work to keep MPC connected to various constituent communities and partners. The Executive Director must demonstrate a personal passion for the outdoors and commitment to the conservation and enjoyment of the natural world and public lands in all seasons.

Location 

The Executive Director will work from MPC’s offices in St. Paul, MN. Periodic remote work is possible. Regular travel is expected. Night, weekend, and irregular work hours should be expected on occasion as programming, fundraising, and other needs dictate. 

Compensation  

A competitive compensation package, including a comprehensive benefits package, will be offered based on experience. The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $120,000–$140,000.
