Location: Washington, DC or remote

Salary range: $86,000 - $130,000


We are in the decisive decade for climate action. The Clean Energy Buyers Alliance seeks a Manager or Senior Manager to assist in growing all aspects of a robust fundraising program to support our bold ambitions to drive a 90% carbon-free U.S. power grid by 2030 and cultivate a global community of energy customers to accelerate clean energy around the world. While our preference is for a candidate at the Senior Manager level, we will consider all qualified candidates.

The Alliance is comprised of the Clean Energy Buyers Institute (CEBI), and its affiliate, the Clean Energy Buyers Association (CEBA), which share a vision of customer-driven, clean energy for all. Our community is comprised of over 350 of the world’s largest corporations and their partners working together to deploy market & policy solutions to clean electricity. This role reports to the Deputy Director of Development and is part of CEBA’s Strategy & Impact team, which works closely with all of CEBA’s program staff, CFO, and CEO.

This position requires a solid understanding of the fundraising cycle, from prospect identification to cultivation through donor stewardship, as well as demonstrated success managing significant philanthropic relationships. Key requirements include exceptional writing skills, project budgeting, a solid understanding of climate and energy issues, strong project management skills, and comfort in working independently to collect and analyze information from across the organization.


Core Responsibilities:


  • Partner with the Deputy Director to build a robust fundraising program to meet the needs of a rapidly growing set of affiliated organizations
  • Independently manage a portfolio of current donors and prospect donors to increase revenues
  • Build a revenue pipeline with well-aligned donor prospects, including foundations, corporations, and high-net-worth individuals
  • Work as a strategic partner across the organization to translate programmatic plans and impacts into compelling and high-quality proposals, reports, program updates, and gift acknowledgments
  • Craft first-draft concept papers, proposals, reports, and other donor communications for program staffs’ revision and edits
  • Develop and present prospect cultivation strategies to senior leadership and prepare teams to execute those strategies
  • Serve as project manager for program teams to ensure the timely submission of grant proposals and reports
  • Prepare well-researched memos for leadership in advance of donor meetings
  • Coach staff on the qualities of superior reports, concept papers, and proposals
  • Liaise with the finance and operations team and program staff to manage program expenditures and ensure spending is on track with grant period
  • Liaise with communications team to help prepare stewardship and cultivation collateral, including a monthly newsletter
  • Participate in the development of policies, procedures, and management systems essential for an impactful development program
  • Manage the integrity and accuracy of the donor relations database
  • Model and teach a “Culture of Philanthropy” for the Clean Energy Buyers Alliance organizations
  • Participate in strategic planning and revenue forecasting
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications: 15+ years' experience if no higher education, 10+ years' experience + Bachelor's Degree, or 7+ years' experience + Master's Degree



  • Demonstrated success identifying, cultivating, and securing new philanthropic relationships
  • Demonstrated success managing and stewarding a portfolio of philanthropic partners
  • Demonstrated understanding of climate and energy issues
  • Experience building a “Culture of Philanthropy” at a nonprofit organization
  • Exceptional written communication skills
  • Strong budget development skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadline-driven projects simultaneously under moderate supervision
  • A strong team player who possesses the interpersonal skills to work across all levels of the organization
