Background

Community Heart & Soul is a resident-driven process that engages the entire population of a town in identifying what they love most about their community, what future they want for it, and how to achieve it. Developed and field-tested over a decade in partnership with over 100 small cities and towns across America, Community Heart & Soul is a proven process for engaging a community in shaping its future.

The Community Heart & Soul organization is focused on expanding our namesake program to include hundreds of additional small cities and towns across the country. The VP of Communications will be instrumental in helping us achieve this objective.

Key Responsibilities

Leading a small team of marketing professionals and in close collaboration with other Community Heart & Soul staff, the VP of Communications is responsible for increasing demand for and adoption of Community Heart & Soul through impactful communications and programs that inspire residents and municipal officials to implement our program. A key success factor will be increasing the perceived value of Community Heart & Soul by effectively communicating the benefits that result from the ongoing practice of Community Heart & Soul.

This is a hands-on role that requires a high degree of proficiency in all facets of marketing and communications. It requires both strategic and tactical skills to ensure that strategies are translated into actions that drive expansion and continuing use by towns. The VP of Communications must be a persuasive writer and speaker and embrace an entrepreneurial culture that values nimbleness, cross-functional collaboration, and a sense of urgency regarding our mission.

Success in this role will be measured by the expansion and continuing use of Community Heart and Soul.

The Community Heart & Soul organization is governed by an engaged Board of Trustees who meet regularly with foundation leadership to provide oversight, guidance, and assistance.
