Leading national fundraising agency,
Social Capital, is seeking an independent contractor to serve as a
senior writer with experience in nonprofit communications to
develop a wide range of fundraising and marketing-related products
and tools.
The Senior Writer will be responsible
for writing fundraising materials including cases for support,
long-form grant proposals, PowerPoint presentations, stewardship
reports, sales sheets, and seven-figure proposals for a range of
donor audiences (corporate, foundation, individual/consumer).
A demonstrated commitment to
strengths-based messaging and experience in equity-centered
storytelling are required for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Write cases for support, both PowerPoint and narrative documents, for an array of non-profit organizations; using strengths-based messaging; synthesizing key organizational strategies and leveraging the power of storytelling to advance sustainable fundraising.
- Craft donor proposals and stewardship reports for non-profit clients, working alongside Social Capital strategists and designers to deliver best-in-class fundraising materials in a timely manner.
- Draft partnership pitches and sales materials, in particular PowerPoint presentations, by working with clients, Social Capital strategists, writing and design team members to create a final product on designated timelines
- Draft fundraising collateral including sales sheets, toolkits, and case statements, working in tandem with Social Capital strategists and design staff.
- Serve as primary editor/reviewer on fundraising materials for assigned portfolio of clients and as needed in support of Social Capital strategists.
- Support as needed on partner recognition best practices, pipeline development and follow up, and general donor research based on identified criteria
- Manage creative services to coordinate writing and design staff assignments against project deadlines
- Participate in client meetings via phone and in-person with Senior and Chief Strategists
- Manage the workflow of products and deliverables for clients in conjunction with Senior and Chief Strategists to ensure project deadlines are met
- Support Social Capital business development, preparing proposals for renewals and new client projects and track proposal activity
- Support Social Capital marketing and conference efforts including preparing content and marketing related materials as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3 to 5+ years’ experience writing philanthropic communications
- Demonstrated experience in strengths-based messaging and equity-centered communications, including storytelling
- Excellent writing and editing skills including the ability to write in a range of voices and styles for varied projects with diverse audiences
- Able to translate complex information into clear, jargon-free language that conveys key messages and impact
- Able to quickly synthesize complex information
- Collegial team player able to work well with diverse constituencies
- Flexible, responsive, and able to balance a variety of activities while meeting deadlines
- Fluency in digital communications
- Experience in branding work a plus
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including a proven ability to work collaboratively with team members on deadline
- Strong verbal and communication skills, including writing and proofing abilities
- Proactive project management
- Creative thinking
- Fluency in Microsoft Office, particularly with PowerPoint
- Ability to travel on occasion
