As AARP’s charitable affiliate, Wish of a Lifetime grants life-changing wishes to older adults and inspires people to redefine aging in America.

Wish of a Lifetime seeks a dynamic servant leader who can leverage connections, networks, and resources in order to achieve high-priority goals. The successful candidate must be willing to bring their unique background, talent, and passion to the virtual boardroom table.

Ideal candidates for the two-year compensation-free term will have the following qualifications:

  • Executive leadership accomplishments in the business and non-profit sectors.
  • Willingness to serve on various committees.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships, build consensus among diverse individuals, and inspire action.
  • A desire and passion to help the organization raise funds for its mission and build relationships with high-net-worth influencers.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for building and cultivating strong relationships with potential corporate sponsors.
  • Known for being an impactful and passionate storyteller.
  • Awareness of aging issues and needs of older adults.
  • A belief in, and ability to live up to, the organization’s core values of transparency, accountability, immediacy, integrity, and collaboration.
  • Significant experience in Board Governance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence, and warmth.

Primary duties & responsibilities include:

  • Help set the direction of the organization’s mission and vision, setting and monitoring goals, and approving the organization’s budget.
  • Actively promote Wish of a Lifetime’s mission by contributing ideas and expertise.
  • Build a corporate sponsor wish-granting pipeline from among Fortune 1000 companies; make personal outreaches by leveraging business networks and contacts.
  • Make Wish of a Lifetime a philanthropic priority and make an annual contribution and/or generate contributions for a total of at least 15% of the organization’s annual operating budget.
  • Monitor the organization’s programs and services and adapt strategies as needed.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization and communicate its value to other organizations, funders or potential funders, thought leaders, key decision-makers, and the general public.

Expectations & Time Commitment:

  • Board Members will meet formally five times throughout the year; four times for a 2-hour remote meeting and once in person in Denver.
  • Each member will serve for two years and is limited to serving three terms.
  • Commit to serve on at least one standing committee or task force and accept special assignments.
  • Expectation of residency outside of Colorado.
