Historic New England, founded as The Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities in 1910, is the largest and most comprehensive independent preservation organization in the United States, and welcomes the public to thirty-eight exceptional museums and landscapes, including several coastal farms. The organization operates a major collections and archives center in Haverhill, Massachusetts, and has the world’s largest collection of New England artifacts, comprising more than 123,000 decorative arts and objects, and 1.5 million archival documents including photographs, architectural drawings, manuscripts, and ephemera. Engaging education programs for youth, adults, and preservation professionals, and award-winning exhibitions and publications are offered in person and virtually. The Historic New England Preservation Easement program is a national leader and protects 119 privately owned historic properties throughout the region.

Historic New England is at a pivotal moment in its history. As the organization continues to enhance its impact across the New England region, the organization is in the early planning stages of an anticipated $200 million comprehensive campaign for program advancement, capital, and endowment.

Historic New England seeks a strategic Campaign Director. The successful candidate will partner with the President and Chief Executive Officer as the co-architect of the anticipated comprehensive campaign and have demonstrated strategic and campaign experience, from planning through completion. S/he will lead the solicitation of major and principal gifts and partner with the President and CEO to develop and solicit an increasingly refined and well-researched pool of principal gift prospects.

The Campaign Director will lead the campaign planning process, including creation of the gift range table, table of needs, named gift opportunities, case for support, identification of the lead gift, and composition of the nucleus fund. S/he will establish the verticals for the campaign, create scaffolding, and determine the campaign approach and timeline. The successful candidate will provide dynamic leadership, strategic direction, and operational management in alignment with Historic New England’s mission and strategic priorities.

The Campaign Director will report to the President and Chief Executive Officer and partner with volunteer leaders in support of the campaign. S/he will assist in the identification, recruitment, and engagement of members of Historic New England’s Campaign Committee. The successful candidate will foster a collegial relationship with Historic New England’s Chief Development Officer and the development team to ensure an inclusive, transparent, and coordinated effort with respect to all Historic New England-related fundraising. S/he will partner with Historic New England’s Strategic Communications Consultant on communications and marketing strategies for the campaign.
