The University of Colorado Boulder Advancement department encourages applications for the Assistant Dean for Advancement for the School of Law. The Assistant Dean reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement and is equivalently accountable to the Dean of the School of Law. The Assistant Dean provides strategic leadership for an advancement program that incorporates resource development, alumni and constituent engagement and advancement marketing and communications functions for the University of Colorado’s School of Law. 
This position and its current complement of five full-time advancement staff directly supports the Dean to engage donors and alumni to advance the School of Law’s educational, research and service mission. The Assistant Dean serves as a member of the Dean’s cabinet as well as the advancement management team. 
The University of Colorado Boulder is in the planning phase of a potential comprehensive campaign for the Boulder campus. This will be the first campus-level campaign in CU Boulder’s history, and the Law School will play a significant role in the strategy and implementation of the campaign.  What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Lead institutional advancement strategy and activities for the University of Colorado’s School of Law through embracing Advancement’s values of joy, collaboration, impact, and excellence. 
  • Develop and reinforce best-practice fundraising programs to enhance private support over short, medium, and long-term horizons in support of the School's research, teaching and service mission. 
  • Sustain and enhance an emerging donor-centered advancement culture. 
  • Manage, coach and mentor team of advancement professionals with specific responsibilities for annual, major and principal gift development, donor relations, alumni engagement, and law firm/constituent relations. 
  • The Assistant Dean is personally responsible for the management of a portfolio of 60-80 donor and prospective donor relationships across the advancement continuum; team and individual performance metrics are determined annually with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement. 
  • As a member of the School of Law’s executive team, serve on the Dean’s Cabinet and other committees as appropriate, and meaningfully contribute to institutional strategy, performance and culture. 
  • Serve as a liaison to the School of Law Alumni Advisory Board, providing strategic support of resource development, alumni, and community engagement activities. 
  • Work collaboratively with leadership in the School of Law to increase institutional readiness for, and fulfillment of, philanthropic investments. Establish effective working relationships with deans, division heads, center directors, and faculty within the School in order to understand their programs and priorities. 
  • Ensure that advancement activities are aligned with the School of Law’s vision, mission, and goals of its strategic plan and aligned with the vision, mission and values of the Advancement division. 
  • Responsible for resource management (planning, operating budget planning and performance, etc.) associated with the School of Law’s advancement program. 
  • As a member of the CU Boulder Advancement Management Team, contribute to overall campus resource development, constituent engagement and reputation management strategy and activity, focusing resources on critical School and pan-university priorities and objectives. 
  • Represent the School of Law’s participation in planning for an anticipated forthcoming campaign. 
  • Work closely and collaboratively with advancement colleagues across the CU system. Serve as the primary liaison with university and campus administrators, including the CU Boulder Alumni Association and, at the discretion of the Assistant Vice Chancellor, with the University of Colorado Foundation and the CU System Advancement team.

This position will travel locally, regionally and nationally as well as have some evening and weekend work commitments. When not traveling, this position has the ability to work a hybrid schedule with some days remote and some days on campus. What We Can Offer The salary range is $156,500 - $170,000 annually.

What We Require
  • Master’s Degree, a JD degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute. 
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible job-related experience. 
    • Successful experience in advancement with major and principal gifts experience. 
    • Success leading and managing a team of advancement professionals, preferably in a higher education environment.
