The Opportunity

Reporting to the VP, Programs (CPO), the Director of Housing & Crisis will direct rental and financial assistance, housing placement and crisis intervention services in accordance with the company mission, values and strategic objectives. We are seeking a seasoned, data-driven and analytical leader with excellent writing skills and a proven record of fixing systems, managing multiple deadlines and leading teams to accomplish deliverables in a hands-on environment. This position is critical to providing clients with efficient and compassionate services and ensuring reliable program data for policy and evaluation purposes.

In this role, you will hire, train and supervise the Housing and Crisis Team, ensuring, excellent client service and accountability for accurate and thorough assessments for financial assistance and other benefits and services; create a team and program environment that is compassionate to people in crisis and demonstrates understanding that homelessness prevention is social justice work;  and ensure program success in meeting goals and deliverables through regular reporting and timely and accurate data collection for internal reporting, grant reporting, communications and development purposes.  In addition, you will provide housing expertise to the program team; advocate for clients when necessary with the various systems impacting clients’ ability to remain housed and assess client cases to ensure all financial request documentation is accurate and adheres to organizational guidelines and build and maintain a robust network of property owners and real estate companies, program and community partners, and government agencies, leveraging this network to troubleshoot cases with government partners.

 

We are not a shelter.  We are a non-profit organization dedicated to ending homelessness. 

 

Qualifications

Must have a MA, MSW or JD along with 10 years of experience in housing assistance, right to counsel and public benefits arena, with 7 years of supervisory and project leadership experience; mediation or negotiation experience and NYC housing and homelessness knowledge are required. Knowledge of benefits systems with an ability and willingness to keep abreast of changes in policies, services and legislation while serving as the organization’s expert on same and the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and represent the organization in high level meetings is a must along with experience with, and an interest in building a strong network of program partners and a referral system.      Must be technically savvy in all current technology, working with databases, Google applications, shared drives and all MS Office modules. Extremely strong communication skills are critical, and the ideal candidate will possess excellent writing, negotiation and public presentation skills.

Comprehensive total compensation package includes a $90K salary, generous PTO, comprehensive benefits package (including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance benefits), a company-funded HRA and transit benefits.
