Senior Director of Development- Women’s Health

This is a partial remote work position, and must be within commutable distance from the midtown office (42nd Street) 

The Senior Director of Development (SDOD) will be responsible for creating a robust women’s health fundraising program with a campaign goal of $85 Million within the Raquel and Jaime Gilinski Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science, the Blavatnik Family Women’s Health Research Institute, and the Institute of Female Biology, as part of the strategic priorities of Mount Sinai’s $2 Billion Limitless Campaign. The SDOD will report to the Deputy Chief Development Officer for Precision Medicine, Women’s Health and Children’s Health.

S/he will be principally responsible for directing the fundraising programs with special emphasis on building a robust fundraising program for obstetrics and gynecology, as well as major donor identification, cultivation, and solicitation. The SDOD will focus on raising major and principal gifts and providing senior level leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and initiatives. The SDOD will also manage the newly formed Women’s Health Advisory Board.

Accordingly, s/he also serves as a liaison to the System Chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science, two institute directors, and physicians with obstetrics private practices.

Externally, the SDOD is representing Mount Sinai, and Women’s Health broadly in the community. The successful candidate will articulate the mission with genuine passion, in the context of a strategic vision that compels the interest and support required to achieve the critical and ambitious goal of raising significant funding for clinical programs, research, and capital renovations.

Roles & Responsibilities: 

  • Provides visionary leadership and day-to-day management that advances the philanthropic mission of Mount Sinai Women’s Health with a campaign fundraising goal of $85 Million. Areas of primary focus include the strategic priorities within the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science, the Blavatnik Family Women’s Health Research Institute, and The Institute for Female Biology.
  • Creates and implements strategies and programs to drive and increase annual and major giving to meet ambitious revenue and activity goals.
  • Performs direct solicitations independently, or in tandem with physicians, and lay leaders and working collaboratively with other frontline fundraisers to enhance the potential interest of donors
  • Partners and builds relationships with various Mount Sinai physicians across women’s health to regularly and pro-actively identify prospects for both annual and major gift support
  • Manages and grows the Women’s Health Advisory Board, working closely with key trustee partners.
  • Develops prospect strategies with Mount Sinai faculty and senior development staff that are effective and aligned with Mount Sinai’s vision and mission, and ensures such strategies and systems are implemented
  • Manages an Annual Fund Officer to meet activity, revenue, and reporting goals
  • Collaborates with prospect management, research, and communications to build the donor pipeline and create donor materials
  • Meets key fundraising activity and financial benchmarks
  • Creates a positive work environment that values professional development and promotes teamwork
  • Additional duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advance degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in managing comprehensive fundraising for large not-for-profit organizations, at least five years of which were in a fundraising leadership position
  • Hands-on, big-thinking fundraiser with proven experience and success in strategizing and leading the solicitation of seven and eight figure gifts from very high net worth individuals
  • Experience in an academic, research, or hospital/health care environment is preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all fundraising approaches, with special expertise and understanding of capital campaigns, grateful patients model, principal and major gifts, and planned giving
  • Demonstrated staff management capabilities
  • A cover letter is required

Computer Skills:

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint); Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising related databases preferred

General Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication with both internal and external constituents, including public speaking skill at delivering compelling and persuasive arguments
