Department Overview:

The mission of the Philanthropic Partnerships vertical is to prospect, cultivate and develop direct relationships with high net-worth individual donors and private foundations to drive significant philanthropic growth. Managing MDA’s Foundations, Major Donors and Planned Giving efforts, this department is strongly driven by building an adequate pipeline of prospects, establishing new relationships with donors and funders, and maintaining & elevating existing relationships and opportunities to highlight MDA’s mission and impact.

Position Description:

As a Major Gifts Officer, you will work within our Philanthropic Partnerships team and will be responsible for developing and implementing our major gift program in an assigned geographic territory. You’ll be responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects capable of giving at the $10,000+ level. An ability to empathize with donors, recognize their philanthropic goals and help them to find their most impactful path to giving while clearly communicating our organization’s mission is key.  This position reports directly to the Vice President, Philanthropic Partnerships.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Help our donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with our organization.
  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects.
  • Initiate contact with prospects, develop appropriate cultivation strategies, complete successful solicitations, maintain stewardship contacts and strengthen relationships with those who have committed to major gifts.  Ability to strengthen relationships and engagement with funders and renew funding as opportunities arise.
  • Develop personalized strategies and cultivation/education plans for communicating with individuals about major gift opportunities.
  • Provide exceptional stewardship of donors after a gift has closed, including recognition, communication, and reporting on impact of gift.
  • Work with various MDA functions to identify programs and initiatives that may be of funding interest to potential prospects.
  • Deliver organized, structured, and persuasive presentations, using effective written and verbal communication.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as needed.

Salary Range:

This position's salary range is $85,000 - $90,000. Final offer amounts and levels are determined by multiple factors, including your experience, and may vary from the amounts listed above.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 5 years of demonstrated fundraising or business development experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience in sales and/or fundraising required.
  • Experience with Major Gifts preferred.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills and political acumen to establish and maintain good working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet predetermined goals and objectives.
  • Proven history of building strong relationships with donors or customers, with successful outcomes.
  • Ability to close five and six figure individual gifts.
  • As determined based on COVID protocols, ability to travel throughout assigned territory (up to 50%) as needed to meet with existing and potential donors.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results.
