General Counsel and Vice President for Human

Skidmore College invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations for the role of General Counsel and Vice President for Human Resources (GC/VPHR). The GC/VPHR will provide transparent and thoughtful leadership and strategic vision while fostering a supportive employee culture that empowers and inspires community members to engagement and creativity.
Reporting to President Marc Conner, the General Counsel and Vice President for Human Resources will serve as the College’s senior officer in all legal and human resource matters – providing leadership, strategic insight, and coordination of the Office of Human Resources, as well as legal counsel and advice. The GC/VPHR will also oversee a broad range of critically important administrative functions that provide vital and transparent services, support, structure, and connectedness to the College community.

In addition, they will have impeccable integrity and the ability to think creatively, analytically, and strategically. This person must combine superb professional judgment with demonstrated success as a collaborative problem-solver, a servant leader, and team player. The GC/VPHR will be an effective administrative leader with strong organizational and active listening skills, a high EQ, an open and inclusive leadership style that fosters teamwork, and the ability to listen to, support, and connect a campus community. Located in Saratoga Springs, New York, the Skidmore campus sits adjacent to the Adirondack Mountains, just a half-hour drive from the tri-city area of Albany, Schenectady, and Troy, and a three-hour drive from New York City, Boston, and Montreal. Rail service from the Saratoga Amtrak station offers additional travel options, including a direct line to New York City. Travel & Leisure calls Saratoga Springs one of “America’s best college towns,” and the historic Saratoga Race Course, Beekman Street Arts District, and Saratoga Spa State Park are just a few of many highlights this city of approximately 30,000 residents has to offer. Saratoga Springs hosts an abundance of cultural, educational, and entertainment offerings, particularly the famed Saratoga Performing Arts Center, which offers world-class performing arts year-round.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role will start at $240,000 with a generous benefits package.
