Union; Exempt PURPOSE OF JOB Reporting to
the Director of Institutional Giving, the Grants Manager is an
integral member of the development team. They will work with the
Director of Institutional Giving to develop strategies to maintain
current foundation and government funding and secure new grants,
steward existing relationships with foundation and government
contacts, and cultivate new institutional support. They will create
high-quality, persuasive proposals and reports and will closely
track application, renewal, and reporting criteria for
institutional-related fundraising to ensure deadlines are met. They
will conduct research on existing potential funders, create budgets
and work closely with program staff to ensure that all proposals
and reports accurately reflect the mission and program of Human
Rights First. MAJOR DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES In collaboration with the Director of
Institutional Giving, the Grants Manager will:
- Manage the application, renewal, and reporting processes for a portfolio of foundation and government funders as provided by the respective existing/ potential donor;
- Write proposals and reports and partner with the Finance team to create budgets, budget narratives, and grant-specific financial reports;
- Maintain a foundation reporting calendar and database;
- Lead the stewardship and cultivation efforts for portfolio of existing and prospective institutional donors;
- Identify important achievements in the work of Human Rights First and develop written content and communications for relevant funders;
- Liaise with program staff to identify – as needed for the purposes of foundation proposals and reports – goals, activities, intended outcomes, resources needed, timelines, and plans for tracking progress and measuring impact;
- Serve as a thought partner on institutional development strategy and plans to develop and implement long-term stewardship and cultivation efforts;
- Other writing and research assignments as needed;
- Other relevant duties as requested based on department and/or organizational need.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience +4 years of related professional experience with foundation and/or government grants;
- Exceptional writing ability;
- Ability to produce high-quality work at a fast pace;
- Strong reasoning and strategic thinking skills;
- Ability to multi-task, independently prioritize tasks; and work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume, deadline-driven environment;
- Ability to juggle several competing priorities at once with a spirit of flexibility and positive outlook;
- Ability to work effectively as a geographically dispersed team member and communicate with staff at offsite locations. This includes comfort with communicating via phone, Zoom, Slack, etc.;
- Demonstrate proactive initiative;
- Demonstrate an interest and passion for human rights;
- Experience with donor databases including Virtuous a plus.
- Ability to travel occasionally for donor meetings.
