The Senior Manager, Development is a key role in the philanthropic and business development/business development strategy at the Alliance for a Healthier Generation during an exciting time of growth and innovation at the organization. The position is responsible for collaborating closely with the Director of Development on a team of five (5) in revenue generation activities in supporting all aspects of the department. The Senior Manager may be assigned as lead project manager on select priority areas based on the needs of the functional department. The role serves as operations partner to the Director, including (a) the full moves management process—from case building, prospect research and vetting, funder meetings, concept papers, to stewardship (b) proposal design and writing, from concept development to submission (c) manage philanthropic- impact story bank with program partners and (d) new funding initiatives.

Anchored in Healthier Generation’s value for achieving health equity, the position will guide and implement strategies that generate investments from corporate, foundation, government, and individual prospects—including serving as account lead for high-value prospects. They will implement annual development activities, contributing to overall development team goals. This position will be a collaborator, working across teams to craft and articulate Healthier Generation’s goals, mission, and strategic framework to prospective and current donors in a compelling and strategic manner.

The Senior Manager’s primary focus will be designing and developing strategic communications and tools to drive cultivation of new and existing funding relationships, liaising with cross-functional teams to understand programmatic needs and vision. S/He/They will effectively and compellingly communicate our mission, programming, accomplishments, and needs to external audiences in both verbal and written form. Extensive executive-level communication and impeccable writing skills are required; experience in marketing and public relations is a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Fundraising Communications

  • Provide broad executive communications support in close partnership and alignment with executive leadership to help prepare messaging/correspondence that shares our philanthropic brand story for internal and external audiences.
  • Design, create strategic communications to further deepen relationships with funders.
  • Under the direction of the Vice President, the Senior Manager ensures that compelling and productive solicitation and stewardship materials are prepared for senior leadership and key fundraising staff. Prepare briefings for senior leadership to ensure productive outcomes of funder meetings.

Concepts & Proposals

  • Design and craft concept papers, pitch decks, proposals for corporate funders and other complex/ high-level partnerships to support Healthier Generation’s ambitious revenue goals.
  • Work with development, marketing/communications, evaluation, and program teams to synthesize information on funders and prospects and to ensure consistent messaging regarding funding opportunities, recognition, and stewardship.

Research, Proposals & Reporting

  • Proactive contributor in cultivating relationships with new funders in collaboration with key development staff, senior and executive leaders, including thank you calls, high stakes emails, periodic email updates, and other opportunities for funder engagement.
  • Support fundraising staff in building philanthropic relationships with a portfolio of corporate and institutional funders.
  • Contribute to creation of strategy, cultivation, and solicitation plans for funding relationships.
  • Support the team on proposals, reports, and events as needed.
  • Research prospects that align with strategic framework, funding focus areas & priorities.
  • Support Development Director in vetting prospects with internal and external relationship holders.
  • Other duties as assigned

Operations

  • Manage functional aspects of maintaining accurate donor databases.
  • Develop internal processes for revenue improvement with key stakeholders across the organization.
  • Support implementation and sustainability of revenue improvement processes.
  • Establish cross teams’ communication to support with due dates, reporting and processes as necessary.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Confidence, creativity and maturity to establish credibility and influence donors at all levels.
  • Excellent correspondence, development and programmatic writing skills.
  • Ability to articulate with knowledge, passion and commitment about health equity and whole child health
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with a variety of constituencies representing diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Comfort in interacting with all types of donors, from large philanthropic organizations to corporate and individual donors
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective individual contributor and team member
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in philanthropy, motivations for giving, research and cultivation practices and standard fundraising techniques
  • Knowledge of development best practices
  • Able to work with partners across the organization to support the efforts of a comprehensive development initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to, as well as guiding others, towards successful fundraising outcomes and goals
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work independently on aggressive timelines
  • Results oriented self-starter with an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, TEAMS and use of spreadsheets
  • Proficiency with eTapestry, Salesforce or similar fundraising database/software programs

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • At least 6 years of development and fundraising experience
  • At least 1 year of development experience with demonstrated ability to contribute to securing six and seven figure institutional gifts and grants
  • Preference for candidates with experience in public health grants and proposal writing and project management skills.
  • Experience writing on deadlines
  • Experience managing a diversified development portfolio including individuals, corporations, and foundations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and use of spreadsheets
  • Proficiency with eTapestry, Salesforce or similar fundraising software programs
  • Experience generating philanthropic funding to support youth, families, health or education preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience working at a regional or national scale/level.
  • Required travel by car or plane up to 10% of the time. 

 

Each job at Healthier Generation is assigned to a salary grade built on market data. For an individual coming into Healthier Generation, we set pay generally between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary grade and based on qualifications. For this position, the minimum is $68,642 and the midpoint is $82,370.
