For over 147 years, The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (The NYSPCC) remains unwavering in its mission to provide child protection and abuse prevention services.

 

The NYSPCC seeks an entrepreneurial and results-oriented Director of Development and Communications (Director) with a proven track record of expanding brand awareness and diversifying philanthropic support. The successful Director will have the unparalleled opportunity to be an active leader at a transformational organization.

 

The Director will partner with the Executive Director and Director of Government Relations and Administration to guide the NYSPCC’s overall direction and ensure the maximization of the NYSPCC’s funding resources. In partnership with the Board of Directors and the Executive Director, the Director will lead, design, and implement a comprehensive development and communications plan in alignment with the NYSPCC’s priorities.  The Director will integrate development and communications activities into the fabric of the existing strategic plan while articulating the vision and critical path to facilitate the maturation and evolution of NYSPCC’s development program into a systematic fundraising enterprise.

 

The Director will lead and coordinate all fiscal and programmatic planning for the NYSPCC, lead a $3 million annual giving campaign, and coordinate the fundraising efforts of the Young Professionals Committee. The successful candidate will lead the identification, research, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects and donors. S/he will lead and further enhance a comprehensive development office, including major gifts, government grants, proposal writing, grants reports, renewals, development of program initiatives and research priorities, donor database management, and acknowledgements.

 

The Director will strategically lead communications initiatives to drive public awareness, raise the organizational profile, and increase visibility. Working with the NYSPCC’s public relations consulting firm, Allison PR, the candidate will develop marketing and communications efforts related to philanthropy, such as collateral materials, donor narratives, social media, communications campaigns. The successful candidate will integrate the organization’s marketing, public relations, and fundraising efforts to ensure a comprehensive expansion of public awareness and visibility.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the stature and integrity to gain the trust and confidence of the Board of Directors, Executive Director, leadership, staff, donors, and prospects. S/he will persuasively articulate the NYSPCC’s mission, history, achievements, and aspirations for the future. The Director will report to the Executive Director, serve as a member of the senior management team, and manage a team of four fundraising professionals: Director of Institutional Giving, Director of Fundraising Events, Manager of Government Grants, and Program Coordinator.
