Assistant Director of Alumni Relations

The Assistant Director of Alumni Relations will oversee and manage the alumni relations, programming and annual giving strategies for the Penn State Brandywine Development and Alumni Relations Office. Reporting to the Director of Campus Development, this position plans and implements special events and programming related to alumni relations and volunteers; identifies, recruits, and manages alumni volunteers; works with volunteers and staff to develop and implement strategies to deliver high-quality alumni relations programming and annual giving strategies, and works collaboratively with various departments and boards/committees to maximize stewardship and alumni relations success for the campus.

Primary Duties
  • Participates in all aspects of alumni engagement, including communications, annual giving and leadership gift work, digital, volunteerism, and face-to-face work. With an aim to build mutually beneficial relationships, the assistant director will engineer sound programs that inspire loyalty and financial support, strengthen the institution's reputation and involve alumni in meaningful activities to advance Penn State's mission.
  • Creates and implements innovative experiences within signature programs and events that ensure variety, diversity, and opportunity for all alumni. This includes, but is not limited to, Homecoming, Reunion Weekend, GivingTuesday, Volunteer Leadership Summit, Brandywine Ball and more.
  • Ensures the effective management of all affinity and regional (local, national, and international) communities; reunion programming committees; professional, mentorship, and career-based programs and communities; and virtual, on-, and off-campus engagement programs that activate and expand the profile of Penn State's alumni and families.
  • Assists the Brandywine Alumni Society Board in increasing alumni participation with the campus. This includes managing volunteers, organizing, and planning events and fundraisers, recruiting new members, and keeping track of their budget.
  • Must stay current on alumni engagement and annual giving trends and innovations in higher education fundraising, incorporating all best practices into Penn State models; identifies and activates new prospective donors, and maintains an active schedule of contacts, activities, and solicitations with individuals capable of making annual gifts; generates a new pipeline of donors through high quality cultivation and solicitations with assigned constituent groups by affinity, such as identity or class based, academic discipline, or recognized club or activity.
  • Leads efforts with campus partners to identify volunteer opportunities and connect with appropriate Development and Alumni Relations staff to increase engagement opportunities (e.g., admissions, Academic Affairs office, Advising and Career Services, etc.).
  • Serves on various committees on campus. Including but not limited to search committees, the Chancellor's Commission on Student Success by Design, the Student Initiated Fee Committee, and more.
  • Acts as the liaison between Penn State Brandywine and the Alumni Association. This includes helping faculty and staff with various alumni-related informational requests and building meaningful and lasting relationships with local alumni and their businesses to help increase engagement and support of the Brandywine campus.


The Division of Development and Alumni Relations is supportive of flexible work arrangements when aligned with the ability to meet the needs of the unit and the essential duties of the position. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
