The Vice President of Development is a key member of the senior leadership team reporting to the President and CEO. The VP will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and colleagues to develop and implement fundraising strategies that increase financial support for Avenidas’ operations, its long-term plans for strategic growth, and its fundraising priorities. The VP will manage and support the Board of Directors and other volunteers in planning and delivering a diverse program of fundraising activities and initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • Five plus years of position-specific experience
  • CFRE Certification is desirable but not required
  • Membership in professional fundraising associations is desirable but not required
  • Deep knowledge and experience in fundraising strategic planning and implementation of annual and multi-year fundraising plans
  • Proven ability to serve in the role of resource/coach/mentor to board members and colleagues; and, in close partnership with the CEO, to build the board’s capabilities in fundraising, consultation, and advocacy
  • Experience mentoring and overseeing staff including a Development Associate and volunteer roles using an open, supportive, and encouraging leadership style with a proven ability to create and maintain a collegial, positive, and productive work environment
  • Strong experience in cultivation and stewardship of individual giving, and major gifts
  • Experience with planned giving would be helpful
  • Institutional fundraising experience collaborating with grants specialists, community/family foundations and corporations
  • Experience in managing annual campaigns and direct mail and online solicitation activities
  • Experience in collaborating with Marketing & Communications on development communications and constituent outreach activities involving website management, e-mail communications and campaigns, social media, print collateral, and donation appeals
  • Event planning and oversight including management of Avenidas’ signature event, Lifetimes of Achievement
  • Strong administrative skills including proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, management of the development budget, database management (current program is Raiser’s Edge) and use of analytics, data, and metrics to track progress and success of fundraising strategies and tactics
