About the organization:

Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.) is a national leader in mental health services for the adoption and foster care community with the core mission to improve the lives of children who have been adopted or in foster care and their families through counseling, lifelong education, and a growing national network of trained professionals. 


For over 25 years, C.A.S.E. has been combining best practices and innovation to provide specialized individual and family therapy, psychiatric services and support groups and have become a local, national, and international resource for adoptive, kinship and foster families and the professionals who support them. C.A.S.E set out in 2021 on a new strategic direction to grow CASE’s clinical and training programs into a National Teaching Clinic and Knowledge Center. It is an exciting time as CASE grows its evidenced-based adoption competent clinical model into a National Demonstration and Teaching Clinic and continues to expand its adoption competent training programs across the country.


C.A.S.E has an annual budget of $7.5 million and a staff of 55 employees.


About the Position:


This position is ideal for a dynamic, results-driven, and well-organized development professional that is ready for a leadership role as C.A.S.E. expands its work nation-wide. The Director of Leadership Giving will have a significant impact on the organization’s next phase of growth.


Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Leadership Giving, is a key member of the organization’s leadership and will lead the Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.) individual giving efforts. They will have a portfolio of 100 to 120 prospects, targeting five- and six-figure prospects. The Director of Leadership Giving is responsible for planning and implementing strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors to support C.A.S.E. They will focus on strategically expanding the organization's Individual Giving program with a goal of significantly increasing the base of annual gifts and multiyear commitments.


This is a full-time, exempt hybrid position.  On-site two (2) days per week, Burtonsville, MD, office.  


Note: May require evening hours. Must occasionally attend specific agency functions in the evening and/or on weekends.



  • Secure major gifts at the five- and six-figure levels.
  • Manage an existing portfolio of 100 to 150 donors and prospects.
  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including C.A.S.E.’s donor database and wealth screening tools.
  • Work with the Development department to align efforts and set goals.
  • Create and implement moves management plans.
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations and work with organizational leadership and program staff to develop individualized donor strategies; support the overall efforts of the Development team.
  • Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition.
  • Track and report progress using specific metrics.
  • Works in close partnership with the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications on external relations and fundraising strategies.
  • Manages signature fundraising events in partnership with Marketing and Communications and outside consultants.
  • Liaison to the Board Development Committee and its work.


  • Attends and actively participates a variety of internal and/or external meetings, committees and/or events which may not be job related, but are related to the agency’s clients, mission, and/or its employees, such as but not limited to, All Staff Meetings, Board Meetings, Development Committee Meetings, Departmental Meetings, Employee annual and or ad-hoc benefits meetings, agency galas, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as may be required.



  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience.
  • At least seven years of relevant work experience, including at least five years of front-line fundraising and working with individual donors.


  • Demonstrated success managing a portfolio of individual donors at the five- and six-figure levels.
  • Demonstrated work experience and donor contacts in mission-aligned areas.
  • Ability to develop and initiate new strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work effectively with diverse constituencies and effectively develop relationships that enhance overall development goals.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage projects simultaneously.
  • Skilled at articulating compelling cases for leadership gifts support.
  • Ability to use data and CRM systems to set fundraising strategy and priorities, measure outcomes, and drive superior performance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, mediation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

Salary & Benefits:


Salary:               95 – 100K
