Position Summary

This role leads the UWCI strategy development and execution supporting retention, growth, and acquisition of members of the Tocqueville and Meridian Societies. The role is responsible for oversight of all Society-related activities and events, management and support of the Tocqueville Society Council, management of the Sr. Manager and Managers of Major Gifts and assuring consistent and strategic integration with other members of the fundraising team. Responsible for achieving annual fundraising goals and growth in fundraising and engagement of donors in this segment. In partnership with the Chief Fundraising and Engagement Officer, provide leadership, guidance and tools for all members of the fundraising team concerning individual donor engagement. 

Position Duties & Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.  They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified. 

  • Fundraising: In conjunction with the UWCI Internal Teams, develop and implement a strategic plan designed to grow the fundraising and membership goals for the Tocqueville Society and Meridian Society. Responsible for leading the planning, identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and prospects who are part of those groups. Work closely with Fundraising Leadership to ensure coordination of fundraising efforts. Provide leadership for the fundraising team in the cultivation of Tocqueville and Meridian donors in their respective portfolios. Manage a personal portfolio of 120 major donors. Conducts a minimum of ten meaningful donor interactions a month.  Provide leadership and guidance to entire fundraising team concerning overall best practices in donor engagement/cultivation.  Assure all donor recognition is up-to-date and clear. 
  • Leadership: Provide supervision and clear direction for the Sr. Manager of Major Gifts and Major Gifts Managers.  Assure coordinated and clear individual and team goals are identified and monitored.  Provide guidance and direction while promoting individual thinking and innovation. Regular and meaningful updates are expected.  Provide leadership for the annual Board giving efforts and execute them in partnership with the President's office and the fundraising operations team. 
    • Volunteer Management: Provide support and leadership for the Tocqueville and Meridian Society Chairs and Steering Committees. Recruit volunteers to participate in United Way activities, such as fundraising, as well as other committees, assuring effective, efficient, and meaningful volunteer experiences. Provide leadership, strategy and support to the Tocqueville Society Chair, Vice Chair and Council.
    • Flexibility: UWCI is evolving with our changing external environment.  Flexibility is a key attribute for this position. A willingness to take on additional duties to ensure the success of the team is essential.
  • Constituent Relationships:  Work with UWCI's Community Impact Team to identify, develop and implement opportunities to communicate community impact work, UWCI goals and priorities to constituents.  Be knowledgeable about UWCI's work in Central Indiana and be an effective and compelling communicator of the same to advance engagement and brand value.
  • Relationships: Develop and maintain regular contact assigned portfolio. Identify and communicate with appropriate UWCI team members regarding opportunities to leverage these relationships more broadly.  Portfolio management to include development of a communications plan and regular outreach through phone, email, mail, and meetings to ensure donors progress through the moves management continuum. Oversee and support the execution of all Tocqueville and Meridian Society events and engagement opportunities to ensure a meaningful experience for donors and guests.
  • Annual Goals: Work with other members of the UWCI team to ensure that goals reflect and align and contribute to the broader goals of the organization. Achieve the annual fundraising, engagement, and donor call goals.

This individual routinely reads, interprets, and analyzes financial reports, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental / legal regulations. Routinely writes complex detailed reports and business correspondence. Routinely presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers (may include Top Management), clients, customers, and the general public. Routinely analyzes and defines problems, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions. Able to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.). Is able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions/information in mathematical or diagram form and deals with several abstract and non-concrete variables. Makes decisions daily on use of resources, performance and budgets and in support of the organization's strategic direction. Decisions could require additional expenditure of resources if not sound decisions. Decisions tend to be short term (one year to three years) and usually moderate to high cost.

 

 

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. CFRE preferred. Four to six years' experience in the field. Focus on philanthropic studies, public administration, business, marketing, or other related field with at least four years business or social services administrative experience preferred. Proven successful sales or fundraising experience preferred. At least 2 years of supervision experience preferred.

 

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong reputation for integrity and professionalism, ability to resolve conflict constructively, strong performance management and evaluation capabilities including the willingness and ability to ensure accountability, ability to build strong relationship both inside and outside UWCI, ability to think strategically, commitment to fostering an inclusive environment consistent with UWCI's commitment to diversity and inclusion.  Must have the ability to prepare, explain, and monitor performance, manage a diverse group of donors and volunteers, manage projects and workload, and engage constructively with the other members of the UWCI team.
