Reports to the Assistant Dean of Advancement

Supervises subordinate professional, classified, and student personnel in the area of expertise.

 

General responsibilities: 

The Assistant Director of Special Events will be an integral member of the team that produces the Academy’s Advancement alumni and corporate special events with attention to financial & engagement goals. Must be able to work collaboratively and cross-functionally within the Advancement Office and across the Academy to achieve key performance goals. Occasional night & weekend work is required; occasional local and national travel will be required.

 

  • In close cooperation with the VP of External Affairs and the Assistant Dean of Advancement plan, stage, and manage large (300+) fundraising designed to engage industry stakeholders

(on-campus and off-campus); coordinate logistics and planning with corporate honoree staff if necessary;

  • Take the lead in planning on-campus and off-campus alumni and/or donor appreciation events (Homecoming, annual Women’s Network event, alumni receptions, etc.);
  • Research, negotiate favorable terms, and book off-campus locations as necessary;
  • Research, negotiate favorable terms, and hire outside event vendors as necessary;
  • Organize MMA Foundation quarterly board meetings and retreats (location, IT/AV needs, dinner requirements, etc.);
  • Coordinate planning of on-campus events with relevant Academy stakeholders and operations staff;
  • Serve as co-administrator of the department’s online registration platforms (Raisers Edge and

Givebutter);

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Three (3) years of experience in special event planning or management, preferably in a fundraising or higher education environment;
  • Skills/Knowledge and Expertise:
  • Demonstrable attention to detail
  • Demonstrable skill with the Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
