The Opportunity

INCLUDEnyc is seeking a Senior Director of Development who will lead INCLUDEnyc’s fund development efforts and have primary responsibility for strengthening the infrastructure needed to support and grow the organization’s budget through foundation, corporate, and individual donors, as well as other emerging revenue streams. As a valued member of INCLUDEnyc’s senior management team, this senior-level director will report to the Executive Director and will oversee and contribute to the team and activities responsible for generating approximately $2 million annually and growing, equal to 30% of INCLUDEnyc’s revenue. Under the strategic direction of the Senior Director of Development, INCLUDEnyc aims to strengthen its relationships with funders, while also expanding and diversifying its donor base and pipeline to include additional institutional, corporate, and individual donors. This role does not oversee government grants and contracts. This full-time position will be based in New York City with a hybrid schedule of two days a week in office.

INCLUDEnyc’s mission is to promote positive futures and enhance the quality of life for New York City children and youth with disabilities, ages birth through 26, and their families. INCLUDEnyc empowers families of children and youth with disabilities with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to make informed decisions, effectively access and navigate systems and services, and advocate for themselves and other young people with disabilities and their families. INCLUDEnyc supports educators, youth workers, and other professionals to partner with families for successful, person-centered services, and to support and promote a family voice in the policy process. INCLUDEnyc is changing the lives of young people with disabilities, their families, and the professionals who support them. Last year the organization served over 14,000 people and reached more than 500,000 New Yorkers with outreach and communications.

 

Candidate Profile and Key Qualifications

The ideal candidate will exemplify the following competencies and characteristics:

  • Established senior development professional with 7+ years of strategic development experience with demonstrated success in increasing organizational revenue, including substantial experience with institutional giving as well as fundraising from individual donors
  • Ability to support the collaborative construction, accessible articulation, and enthusiastic implementation of annual strategic goals and tactical implementation plans
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; must be an experienced grant writer and editor capable of generating and finalizing error-free written content in a timely manner
  • Management experience and dynamic team management skills; experience with and commitment to supporting the professional development of diverse development team members across the organization
  • Success cultivating relationships with both individual and institutional stakeholders
  • Nimble, resourceful, and responsive to the needs of team members up, down, and across INCLUDEnyc
  • Experience with data and deadline-driven, detail-oriented project management as well as managing and prioritizing individual and team workflows
  • Ability to collaborate with the Executive Team to set short- and long-term development goals
  • Commitment to INCLUDEnyc’s mission and ability to speak persuasively to stakeholders about INCLUDEnyc’s achievements
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to connect with internal and external stakeholders to further the organization’s mission
  • Dedication to a diverse, inclusive, and collegial workplace
  • Fluency with technology, including Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Salesforce
  • Knowledge of special education and/or disability funding is a plus

 

Core Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Senior Director of Development include but are not limited to:

  • Construct, articulate, and implement a comprehensive development strategy and implementation plan to include foundation, corporate, and individual donors
  • Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, working alongside the Executive Director and the Board of Directors on all major fundraising initiatives to help INCLUDEnyc sustain current capacity and continue to grow and scale the organization
  • Write, edit, and finalize compelling grant applications and other development-related communications ensuring they are error-free and delivered in a professional and timely manner
  • Ensure the efficient and effective coordination of development workflows
  • Collaborate with senior management, program leadership, development team members, and communications staff to identify, cultivate, and mobilize the INCLUDEnyc network – volunteers, donors, champions, employers, and others – as contributors
  • Work with the Executive Director to support Board members and serve as a subject matter expert in institutional and individual fundraising
  • Attend and represent INCLUDEnyc at key fundraising events, meetings, and conferences
  • Collaborate with communications staff to implement INCLUDEnyc’s communications strategy and ensure the development and use of print and digital collateral consistent with INCLUDEnyc’s brand
  • Develop and manage a development dashboard and other tracking systems in Salesforce to support donor development and overall goal setting
  • Coordinate and oversee annual special events, conceptualizing new events to engage external stakeholders in an ongoing way
  • Collaborate with the partner and community engagement department to develop an integrated approach to external partnerships and sponsorships
  • Recruit, retain, and effectively manage a diverse team of development professionals; provide coaching, guidance, and professional development opportunities for development team members

 

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for the position is between $125,000 and $135,000 and is commensurate with demonstrated experience and abilities.
