Leadership Giving Specialist 

Fundraising and Engagement

Position Summary 

United Way of Central Indiana(UWCI) recognizes that the key to success is a strong and cohesive team that works through shared values to achieve our mission.The Leadership GivingSpecialist will cultivate a portfolio of Leadership-level donors ($500 - $2,500 annual giving) to strengthen their connection with United Way, resulting in long term financial commitments to the organization with a goal of growth to a major donor level.  The Manager will also lead efforts with one of the United Way Forever United Networkgroups (LINC, Emerging Leaders, Diversity Leadership Circle, Women United, Always United) by working with the volunteer leadership groups of those giving societies to increase membership and connection to United Way. The goal is to increase donor retention and engagement by enhancing the donor experience. 

 

 

 

Position Duties & Responsibilities 

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.  They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.   

 

 

Donor Portfolio Management 

  • Conduct individual meetings with donors and potential donors to discuss their philanthropic passions and goals.  
  • Manage a portfolio of 150 donors to optimize their giving and deepen their commitment to United Way of Central Indiana.Donor gifts range from $500-$2,500. 
  • Achieve donor call expectations (60 annually) and annual fundraising goals. 
  • Develop a donor engagement plan for assigned portfolio to assure consistent cultivation throughout the year. 
  • Assure donors are recognized appropriately and are encouraged to attend recognition opportunities. 

 

 

Leadership Level Donor Acquisition 

  • In partnership with the Leadership Giving team, consistently and actively identify prospective leadership level donors and cultivate those individuals towards becoming leadership donors.  

 

Giving Society Leadership 

  • Provide staff leadership and guidance for one of the United Way of Central Indiana Forever United Network Giving Societies (LINC, Emerging Leaders, Diversity Leadership Circle, Women United, Always United).  Giving Circles are comprised of donors who give at least $1,000/year to United Way. 
  • Work directly with the volunteer steering committee of the assigned giving society to set annual goals and design engagement opportunities resulting in increased membership in the society. 

 

Donor Recognition 

  • In partnership with the Leadership Giving team and the Events Manager, deliver an annual leadership Giving Recognition event that engages and shows appreciation for United Way donors. 

Donor Communication 

  • Develop communications and awareness plans in tandem with UWCI marketing team. 

 

Database Management 

  • Record and track donor calls, connections and emails in the United Way CRM system.  
  • Maintain accurate reports of current donors list for the Forever United Network ($1,000+), prospects, and lapsed donors.  

 

Trainings/Workgroups: 

  • Participate in training/workgroups as required.   

 

Annual Goals:  

  • Achieve established goals. Work with the Director to ensure goals reflect and align and contribute to the broader goals of the organization.  

 

Flexibility:  

  • UWCI is evolving with our changing external environment. Flexibility and adaptability are key attributes for this position. A willingness to take on additional duties to ensure the success of the team is essential.

Education and/or Experience 

Bachelor's degree preferred.  At least two years of fundraising experience preferred.  Knowledge of the central Indiana community and the human service sector is preferred. 

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong reputation for integrity and professionalism, strong performance management and evaluation capabilities including the willingness and ability to ensure accountability, ability to build strong relationship both inside and outside UWCI, ability to think strategically, commitment to fostering an inclusive environment consistent with UWCI's commitment to diversity and inclusion.  Must have the ability to prepare, explain, and monitor performance, manage a diverse group of donors and volunteers, manage projects and workload, and engage constructively with the other members of the UWCI team.
