About Saga Education
Who we are

Saga Education is the national leader in high-impact, in-school-day tutoring. We leverage the power of human capital and technology to accelerate student outcomes and create more equitable learning for students. We are a central partner in the movement to accelerate the day when equitable opportunities for learning are provided to students across all of our public schools. Since our founding as a nonprofit in 2014, we have reached more than 30,000 students in schools across six different regions. With our proven-to-work tutoring model and focus on relationship building, we have been able to reach students who need it most and support families, educators, and school districts through our services.

We run direct service programs in multiple cities, and we also support states and school districts in every time zone (and in the Netherlands) with our training, technical assistance, and quality assurance services for getting high-impact tutoring right. We work actively with many organizations to change the federal and state landscapes to help ensure that high impact tutoring isn’t only a recovery and acceleration plan in response to Covid, but is also a new, systemic lever to redesign schools to work for kids who are experiencing poverty, who in this country are disproportionately Black and brown.

Saga is a financially strong, talent-filled, rapid growth organization whose work led to the most significant research about high impact tutoring, that in turn led to the growing movement towards infusing effective tutoring into US schools and schools worldwide.  Saga has attracted funding from philanthropies including Mackenzie Scott, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Overdeck Family Foundation, and many others.  The University of Chicago’s Education Lab calls Saga’s results “among the most effective ever rigorously studied in US public schools,” with students gaining as much as 2 ½ years of extra learning in one year in Saga’s directly run program model.

What We Do

Inside each student lives a story waiting to unfold. We know every student is capable of shaping a story of success—in school, and in life. But not every student has had a fair chance to see it. Saga Education envisions a world where students–especially Black and Latinx students–have equitable access to economic and social mobility. To achieve this, Saga seeks to establish high-impact, in-school-day, high impact tutoring as an integrated part of a student’s education, as a proven strategy to accelerate educational equity.

Years of scientific study and research show that our program works–not only to raise math scores but to foster the confidence and sense of belonging that underpin all academic success. As a trusted leader and partner in building powerful tutoring programs, Saga provides the resources and tools to enable all districts to take advantage of our 19 years of expertise.
