The Associate Vice President of Development will forge meaningful connections within Levine’s internal and external community.  

The Associate Vice President will play a critical leadership role in the fundraising efforts for Levine Music, which provides music education and performance opportunities to the community. As we near the completion of a comprehensive strategic planning process, we will soon embark on a major fundraising initiative that will pave the way for Levine’s important future goals, including opening a new campus in Northern Virginia in 2024. We seek a visionary fundraising leader who will partner with Board members and executive leadership and be at the forefront of helping to shape plans to provide the essential support necessary to realize our vision for the future.  

The successful candidate will have a commitment to and experience with developing and maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective donors, many of whom have long histories with Levine. Reporting to the Vice President of Development & Strategic Projects, the Associate Vice President also will manage a portfolio of leadership ($1,250+) and major gift ($10,000+) prospects and donors (approximately 100-150 total) determining and implementing strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward these individuals. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, exhibit a commitment to collaborative fundraising, possess excellent communications skills and demonstrate advanced organizational skills. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Strategic Partnership – Assist the VP of Development in executing and managing a comprehensive fundraising program to support strategic center or institution-wide initiatives. 
  • Donor Cultivation and Stewardship – Oversees, implements, and maintains personal portfolio of leadership and major donors and prospects with a monthly touch minimum which is charted against success. Cultivate and help maintain good relations with frequent contact with donors, while also developing new relationships with prospects to create a funding pipeline. Draft acknowledgment letters and track follow-up. As required, and in partnership with the VP of Development, oversee additional stewardship needed by President & CEO and others including emails/videos, holiday card mailings, invitations to special events, and personal calls. 
  • Annual and Multi-Year Giving Solicitation – Initiate, coordinate, draft, and implement annual solicitations, proposals, or necessary development materials for all personal portfolio donors. Methods to include in-person meetings, phone calls, mail, online outreach and concert attendance. Maintain portfolio calendar to maximize cultivation events and keep giving cycle on track. With the VP of Development, establish long-term goals and objectives towards new donor acquisition and growth. Assures proper planning by maintaining matrix, goal setting, benchmarking, and keeping solicitors on task. 
  • Development Communications – Oversees design of development-driven materials, including case for support. Write, design, and send out regular correspondence on programs and events relevant to Development’s strategic goals and objectives in partnership with Communications department on a pre-established and coordinated timeline with distribution to Levine’s mailing list. Monitor and oversee updates to the Development section of the Levine website.  
  • Donor Research – Oversee the Development team’s overall prospect research processes working with other members of the Development team to continuously seek out new opportunities for funding and identifying major donor prospects. 
  • Database Oversight – Partnering with the Development Managers, ensure timely recording and acknowledgement of gifts. Participate in maintaining accurate, up-to-date records in Raiser’s Edge. Enters moves management updates in Raiser’s Edge. Generate monthly reports to benchmark outreach and track towards fundraising goals. 
  • Volunteer Management – Work with the VP of Development to recruit, train, motivate and manage Trustees and volunteer leadership to accomplish annual giving, campaign, and event fundraising goals. Identifies, cultivates, recruits, and develops fundraising volunteers on an ongoing basis. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • 7+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a track record of successful solicitations. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, or other fundraising database software 
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized. 
  • Commitment to good judgement, tact, sensitivity, and discretion in handling of confidential information, materials, and situations. 
  • Self-starter, responsible and reliable. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently effectively.  
  • Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills. 
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Valid driver’s license. 
  • Some night and weekend availability 

Salary range: $100,000-$125,000
